I'm a very new player, started just a couple of days ago. I'll answer the main questions first and then discuss why Ryzom seems to have sucked me in.

1. How did you come to know about Ryzom?
I did a google search for "exploration based mmo's", this came up in an article I'll link here:
http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/03/free-for-all-my-five-favorite- mmos-for-exploration/
I've checked out all of those titles briefly, but Ryzom is my favorite so far.

2. Have you played any graphics intensive games before?
Yes, plenty of recent single player releases, EVE is the only graphics intensive MMO I think I've played recently. Not sure how this question is relevant, Ryzom's graphics are fairly dated. Charming, but dated. It actually reminds me quite a bit of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in terms of art style/graphics quality (which isn't a bad thing necessarily).

3. Which OS do you use for Ryzom.
Windows 7

4. F2P or P2P?
F2P for now, I'm a very new player.

Okay, so with all that out of the way... I think the main reason I'm warming up to Ryzom is because it gives me an interesting space to explore and figure out. I love it when a game gives me minimal directions and just leaves me to figure things out at my own pace. It seems to me that a lot of modern mmo's aren't in touch with this and try to lead you through their worlds in a very linear way. Everyone goes from questline A to B to C to D like a giant conveyor belt to carry people through the game.

So far, even though Ryzom does have npc quests early on, it doesn't feel like it's trying to make me do anything in a specific way. I'll see other players wandering out in the world in Ryzom and I feel compelled to interact and help them because the game is open and I don't feel like I'll be a nuisance to whatever goals they may have. The world feels dynamic and interesting to observe and even the creatures are enjoyable to watch as they travel in herds. Sometimes I'll sit (in-game) and just watch the animals movement patterns. Sometimes the animals will come up to me curiously and sniff me. All this sort of stuff is wonderful and makes me feel like there's something going on in their little coded AI algorithms that serves more of a purpose than to be killed by the players in the game. I'd love to see the AI reactions and interactions with the players in the game expanded on even more.

The skill creation system is also really interesting and cool to experiment with.

I dunno, I feel like I've stumbled onto something special. The game is a little rough around the edges, and there's still room for improvement... but what I've experienced so far is definitely going to keep me interested in the game for a while longer.

I've been searching for a mmorpg game like Rift or WoW on linux. I configured my laptop to ubuntu and was searching for an alternative and so I found Ryzom. THe game itself could use some improvements as said many times, but the essential core is very interesting and addictive.

I would really enjoy seeing that the developers would do some work in making the game a bit more userfriendly... payment, server-response for instance.

But hey, I do enjoy the game for now and I guess it will last some time.

As I said, I have been playing several years WoW, I am playing Rift and Path of Exile on a desktop computer with Windows and Ryzom on laptop under linux now.
By the way... I tried so many Rpg games on Linux and their clones but I think Ryzom is the only really good Rpg on a linux platform.

1. How did you come to know about Ryzom ?

Son No. 2 didn't get into the WoW Beta and was disappointed. Back in the day we did a lot of beta testing for OS utilities, office and CAD software in a time when having a "corporate resume" if you will was often required.

I read about SoRs development and wrote to the NA support group (Themis) listing of past efforts and got in early. While my son was at school, created a toon, and had about 2 hours till he got home and explored for a while. He played for about 8 months, as did Son No. 3 later on (TrykerFreddy) as well. Played thru open beta, followed by FBT, and more open betas

They broke my original toon, and I couldn't get in post release, so I finally gave up and created a new name as a joke (Fyrosfreddy) just so i could get in and say hello to folks.

2. Have you played any graphics intensive games before ?

Before and since. Raised a family of nerds, starting building PCs for ourselves (CAD and workstations for office) in 1990. The graphics cards for CAD made great cards for gaming, so that soon followed w/ games like the 7th Guest. Never played any other MMO for any length of time as they always violate one of two rules a) no games w/ jumping ... watching toons in say CoD running into or away from battle pogosticking their way thru the field of battle just kills the realism / immersion for me b) any game where it's all about winning and not getting, but keeping all the goodies for other players is not for me.

As for graphics, I can't say that SoR is graphics intensive. Only one of my GFX cards breaks 30C and just barely, the other isn't used. I like that on the 64 bit client, the CPU uses all 8 cores by default. Burt Ryzom plays just fine on IGP.

3. Which OS do you use for Ryzom ?

Win 7 64 (now using 64 bit client)

4. F2P or P2P ?

P2P. If I use a product, I believe in supporting it. Everyone deserves a living wage and should be paid for their work.

I don't use alts as, to my eyes, that's cheating. Not cheating other players per se, cheating myself.

1:How did you come to know about Ryzom?

Back in 2006 i needed a replacement for SWG PRE CU, visited mmorpg.com and checked for the highest ranked sandbox MMORPG (deliberatly ignoring WOW, which i never touched in my life - blamed the destroying of SWG on WoW success-) . Played some of them but sticked to Ryzom and Silan.
After 'The Soul' grabbed me on my first visit on mainland i was hooked.

2: Have you played any graphics intensive games before?

Anytime gameplay over graphics.
If graphics would mean anything more to me i would still play some singleplayer shooter or something optimized for single player.
Was always ok with MMORPG's graphic wise.

3:Which OS do you use for Ryzom.
Windows XP then Windows 7 Ultimate.

4.F2P or P2P

Ryzom is always P2P for me.

1. How did you come to know about Ryzom?
My brother played the beta and I got hooked right away when I saw the beautiful world of Atys. Right after subscribing to retail he quit and I inherited his account, which was the beginning of my journey.

2. Have you played any graphics intensive games before?
Ryzom is beautiful, I don't think it's a matter of modern graphics engines or whatnot but rather design.

3. Which OS do you use for Ryzom.
OS X at the moment :)

4. F2P or P2P?
P2P, I see no reason not to pay for something this wonderful.

2. Have you played any graphics intensive games before?
Yes, many.

3. Which OS do you use for Ryzom?
64bit win7.

4. F2P or P2P?

I started out very early back in beta. Back then i was going by nova , novaflare or variant. After a few short months as beta tester i ended up on csr staff some how . I had a bad case of burn out and stoped playing a couple months in to retail. I heard about it from some email list i was signed up for that listed beta mmorpgs. Never did loose my love for this game though just could not play any more. Im back now in a great guild and will be going to a paid account soon as im ahead on rent and able to pay for 1 year in advance

I was looking for an RPG to keep me occupied, which ran under Linux (I will not touch Windows), when I found myself at home 24/7. Of course Saga of Ryzom came up in my searches and I was immediated engrossed, even as a low level on Silan.

This is the only 3D RPG I have played but , as has been said, this is not graphics intensive.

I run under 64-bit Linux both Ubuntu and Fedora.

2x P2P, as I firmly believe in supporting anything where I am taking something, or in this case gaining something. Although I had little choice in 2007/9 because it was 21 days free, then subscribe or start again, when I became stuck on this crazy rootball.
