map.xml is part of the source code. It is packed into gamedev.bnp (i think) in the compiled client. Ryzom has a feature to accept a file like map.xml to override the default one. However, modified game clients are at least not supported and might get you into some trouble if CSR don't agree this is a harmless modification :-)

I think the point Karu was making is that it is much less than a programming task, it's changing "2" to "4" or "8" in a human readable configuration file.

we were very close to the answer to what we were looking for here, but the thread was lost in the shuffle.

the question stands:

how do i change the zoom limit of the in-game map?

can adding xxxxxxxx.xxx file to the xxxx directory override the default setting (the previous replies seam to say yes it can be done.)

karu and casy were very close to the answer we're seeking, will someone please finish the answer.

(when you zoom in to the map on the BM site it zooms in closer then the ingame map, and while it's a little "blockly" it's much simpler to see the various flags and markers up close.)

this question's answer could also lead to a related question i've ask:
can you extract the various map files to make small edits and then place file xxxxxxx.xxx into directory xxxxx.

it's very clear that things like this are not currently against the ToS/CoC as it's no different then downloading and replacing the spells animations to the classic style animations. they are all simply cosmetic changes to the client that give no advantage to one user over another user. is it too much to ask for the answers? if you feel that the answer would be too much to post here, i'll be happy to receive an in-game mail with all the details.

found the solution to this problem, and made it simple for you:

download this file map.xml.zip

rename from "map.xml.zip" to "map.xml"

(next step best done while offline {not logged into game}, to ensure it doesn't get deleted when you log off)

place "map.xml" in the "user" folder or the "ryzom\data" folder

enjoy a greater zoom in on the mini-map. (no more fighting to try to click the right flag)

note: the map get's a little pixelated when zoomed in to the max, but that's the only price to this handy fix.

I can’t live without the extra map zoom anymore. Thank you Talk. :)

But I had a bit trouble to find it again in the forums.  *bookmark & push*

Everone has an opinion, and of course are entitled to have one, but others are equally entitled to decide whether they choose to agree or disagree. Acting like a complete Muppet isn't likely going to change minds or win support :)

Are you advising users to overwrite map.xml to get deeper zoom?

Are you aware that MaxMapScale=2.0; has been in client config for ages?

I would like to be able to zoom in closer, and it doesn't bother me that it will look blurred or pixelated. x2 or x4 would be ideal. It shouldn't be much of a programming task either.
max scale of map is set from map.xml file. currently its 2x the size of map image. You can change the value there or change the size of map image.

then why not say '2018-04-30' instaid of 'ages' when it literally wasn't even a year ago.

your first post should have been:
'They added the option to config less then a year ago, no more messing with xml.

heres how you do it:
bla bla go config bla bla add this bla bla'

I've tried adjusting both map settings in the default config, but upon opening Ryzom, they are set back to 2 and 8 and the app has to relaunch.
