Does tool life decrease by number of mats crafted? I figured it was the number of actions (of which there are a lot when grinding jewels) but I'm not too sure.

I was directed to a website with the formula I had derived, derived at least a year before. (Memory fails, but I think it was Kalyndra(Arispotle) who had done it.)

However, since my worse degrade (q200) was still more that +50 levels overcraft, I was expecting max exp on all crafts. However, I only got max exp on the undegraded q250 crafts.Has it always worked this way? And if so, what is the benefit of overcrafting more than +50 levels?

I have never seen any benefit in OC'ing more then 40 lvls.Between failed actions and lost mats it has never seemed worthwhile.-Kil

You get maximum reward only for complete success and that is capped at 300 xp/mat. When I mentioned this, I was directed to a website with the formula I had derived, derived at least a year before. (Memory fails, but I think it was Kalyndra who had done it.)

I checked tool wearing during armor crafting right now, on a sample of 1454 mats it was 52 per percent of tool life, i.e. 5200 mats over the lifetime. This is consistent with what I recall from my experiences: I usually dig for two packers, then craft, and the tool wears out during the third crafting series. I did not realize any change of wearout recently. Thanks to all for OC explanations, some was new to me.
