Sexual 'creeping' doesn't happen in Ryzom- the playerbase has an average age of ~30 probably. I will just say however Ryzom does appear to have a knack to create relationships.
Roleplay in Ryzom is done through the around chat and as you pointed out- many people don't use the around chat for roleplay. Your best bet is to start with an obviously roleplay sentence and support it with brackets if they don't understand (That was IC btw). Frequent opportunities for starting roleplayers lie within the Tryker, Fyros, Zorai, Matis and Ranger meetings (no marauder ones yet). I personally found them slow, drab and some roleplayers were.. well I won't go there. Regardless that would be a good place for you to start.
