When I originally installed Ryzom, or the last time I had to download the new client and reinstall my operating system, I was told to install it to in linux under home/user/.ryzom.

This time I have checked upgrade of linux ryzom directions Upgrade of Linux clients to version 3.0

There it says to install to /home/user/.local/share/Ryzom.

The original nel report I got after my system crashed was:

A fatal error occurs. The program must quit
ProcName: ryzom_client
Date: 2016/07/04 20:07:05
File: /home/src/packaging/ryzom/steam/ryzomcore/code/ryzom/client/src/c lient_cfg.cpp
Line: 1967
FuncName: init
Reason: cannot find client_default.cfg
-------------------------------

So I went and copied the whole .ryzom folder to /home/user/.local/share. The renamed the Ryzom folder to ryzombak. Then renamed the .ryzom folder to Ryzom.

Now the error report was.

Okay can't find that report right now but it couldn't find a different file.

So I tried to start it again from .ryzom

Log with no filter:

2016/09/25 18:59:29 PGS ERR 0a5b8780 service.cpp 620 : SERVICE: Neither the config file '/home/user/.ryzom/patch_gen_service.cfg' nor the default one can be found, can't launch the service

I believe that there is more than one problem with this patch. But one of them I think is the path command.

When it gets to a certain point it crashes. Apparently from comparing the path command.

I believe another problem is with the default graphics driver. No matter how many times I re-edit the file after the patch is done it changes back to whatever it decides it wants the driver to be in client_default.cfg after the patch is done. So each time before patching I have to go back into client_default.cfg and change the driver back to OpenGL.

I am now trying to edit the path command.... maybe checking all nel_report... sigh.

I went to college for this stuff. I don't think all the players have the ability to do what I can do.

It has also been many years since I went to school I don't feel like editing all these files to play ryzom.

Stop editing files. Especially client_default.cfg. If you need to edit, and I mean really need to, copy the statement from client_default.cfg into client.cfg. Do not copy everything over.

If you need to configure the basic stuff (display, sound, ..), then use ryzom_configuration_qt program from the same directory ryzom_client is in.

Why would you want to change 3D driver under Linux ? Oo

Did you seriously change from OpenGL to D3D under Linux ? oO

I don't know if you know but only OpenGL driver is supported under Linux and OS X, D3D is specific to Windows.

And yes, Karu is right once more :p
