welcome to game and like whats said before do the quests on silan until you are bored of questing (no quests on mainland really).
Then tp to mainland read some lore (http://atys.ryzom.com or http://www.ryzomnomnom.com) team with some ppl and decide on wich faction/civ you wanna join, then look for a guild.
