not sure what was going on with 1.0

but the server stratification issue was concerning a 2x xp bonus from lvl 1...

#169 Reporter | Citer[en]

i was refering to the reasons for the reset wipe that some keep talking about. Paying players will definitly be separated from f2p because of the xp change.

Hi all,

My brother and I played this game for a few months back in 2009. We were thinking about resubbing (P2P) when we got emails about "A New Beginning 2.0" and saw that all servers would be wiped and merged to one server.

After digging around for info a bit it looks like only free players will be wiped and those with subs with keep everything? I suppose this makes sense from the standpoint of catering to those who have been paying Ryzom's bills for the last several years. However, my brother and I have no interest in resubbing and playing again after finding out that it wasn't a full wipe for everyone. Maybe if their were two servers (one for those who elect to keep anything and another for those who are willing to have everything but their name/appearance wiped?) we would be interested.

Just thought the powers that be and the community would like another perspective. :)

oic that's cool

server merge will make a more populated world, but all the other changes seem very unwelcomed by the players, not to mention causing a great deal of strife beforehand.

not sure who they consulted on that issue, but I think the players know alot better than they do.

should have asked us beforehand, as we would have given that info for free

Not everything. Even those who keep the most possible will lose all of their items (by "apartment items" they mean furniture, not items stored in the apartment), any special titles they have (except for the beta title "Elder of Atys"; I don't for sure what will happen to the Windermeer title "Wayfarer" or the Cho title "Journeyer"), their fame, their occupations, their guilds...am I forgetting anything? Plus, many map marks will be invalidated by the change-around of resource and mob spawn locations.

Those are all three account bound titles. That being the case, all three titles should work the same.

Thanks for the clarification. Still seems similar to what I was suggesting. Seems backwards as well. Seems like it would make more sense to let people keep their name, appearance, titles, guilds, etc. and delete all items, levels, skills, etc. Meh. I don't fit the mold of your average MMO player, I guess. I am/would be much more excited by the prospect of completely starting over along with everyone else than I am by a setup that allows vets to retain quite a bit of what they have.

#175 Reporter | Citer[en]

Well there will indeed be alot of players just starting out and currently are... i don't see why you shouldn't want to play with them. Older players play too its a big diverse world. Lots of homins doing lots of things. Vets won't have anything other than experience and skills, so more of Atys will be used.

Just comes round to what i said before whats a 'level playing field'? everyone must be same level all the time?? i don't get it.

Totally agree with this. Form guilds of restart players. High lvl players won't be in the same areas anyways, you don't need to ask for or accept their help and you can enjoy the experience of forging your way through Atys anew with guildies of a similar mindset.

The stratification of player lvls would begin to reassert itself within days of a complete restart anyway. Other then a full reset and a limit on XP earned per day, there is no way to get any perceived "level playing field". Even then it would only be a matter of time.

I guess I don't get it either...

Just wanted to clarify, startification is a very top down type of thing, and you really don't see it much in sandbox mmo's...

So, higher levels going to different areas isn't really stratification, simply area load in terms of players. Certain players will advance at different rates--this is all associated with the nice things sandbox mmos have to offer. Like montessory schools, people can advance at their own pace, in whatever skill set they choose, and pretty much enjoy the game.

While you do see a great deal of stratification in guilds, that is usually expected and understood.

I for one would only join a guild when i had something to offer (say at a much advanced level to do things that require a large number of players, over a period of time)

If people start approaching this game with the mentality that you can "win" at it in some way, they're really missing the point, and in the end will not have a very enjoyable playing experience.

This is one of my concerns over the blanket 2x xp option.

#179 Reporter | Citer[en]

the 2X option is one of the things I like that they are doing actually. I never bothered to level without cats any way. this isnt a 60 70 80 level game, its 250 freaking levels for each master. even at 2x it takes a good amount of time to do.

i also believe in incentives to get F2Pers to subscribe.

so 2x xp after 125 would be something you'd be in favor of?

think my main issue is with the newbies learning to PL themselves rather than learning how to actually play the game well, and subsequently enjoy it

newbies meaning even those brand new to mmo's

No, I always want 2x XP, 125 or not. But I want it only for P2P. Why are you concerned about PLing? Its the nature of MMOs. This is an MMO that is almost 100% grind. PLing is a must. I do not believe the beauty of Ryzom is in the leveling. The leveling is horrible. No thought or design what so ever. The beauty is in many other things. For me getting masters was a means. Not an end.

have not found any of my experiences with playing as "horrible", other than abusive players...

don't really focus on leveling so much since I'm not in a hurry to match someone else...

suprisingly, i either meet or go beyond my goals in the normal progress of the game--esp. when I get really involved with one aspect or another.

edit: just to clarify, have met very few mean ppl on atys
