Re: Excuses Given for Full Char Wipe:

In the excuses you gave for the full char wipe, and the sunshine up the arse blowing that was given as reasons to "enjoy the reset", a comment was made by the OP about our wonderful community.

The community is what it is, and has stayed loyal for as long as it has, because there was trust. We trusted you, the devs, not to spit in our faces and tell us it was honey drips.

You are, now, in the process of breaking that trust.

With the trust, so goes the respect. You, obviously, have no respect for us. Why then, should we have any respect for you or your product.

See how that works?

There's an old saying: "Crap rolls downhill, but stink rises".

You've notified your trusting community of players that you intend to knowingly and willingly crap on them.

Enjoy the smell that's coming.

PS. I, personally, lose nearly nothing in a full char wipe. I've played this game off and on since beta, but always wipe my own chars when I come back to the game and start over. No skin off my nose on that. But, what I find reprehensible and unforgivable, is your deceit in the excuses you gave for the need of the wipe, the smoke you blew about us enjoying the wipe and your seeming inability to comprehend that it is the high skilled, long time players that not only make this community what it is, but also make the game survivable for many, if not most, of your new players in what they (the long term players) provide as material support and their willingness to spend large amounts of their game time in aiding and assisting newer players.

Are you really willing to bank on the long term players sticking around for a full do-over? Really?

I am sticking around after this wipe. Sure, I don't like my character of 6 years being wiped back to zero. I will, however, enjoy playing with my friends who are staying, building something new and enjoying the game much the same as I have been for the last 6 years. Yes, the character wipe is a horrible thing, but it isn't as bad as not having the game at all. I'm not sure what will happen with Ryzom after this wipe. Anything can happen, it's eventual demise is a huge possibility; but isn't every game doomed to end? These things are not permanent. All of those years that we have all put into Ryzom, we had to know that at some point it would end, so why all of this heartache? Just enjoy the company of your friends, what is the difference in hunting something that is lvl 250 or something that is lvl 50 as long as your with the people you enjoy being around and are having fun? Anyhoo, I hope to see many of you back on Ryzom after this wipe.

Well said Chongon. I also think this wipe would benefit the game. It would allow for the devs to restart the game as new and hopefully attract new players as well

The attraction of new players would be a wonderful thing, yes, if Ryzom were advertised at all. The closest thing we've seen to advertisement is postings on Reddit and the addition of Ryzom to the Apple Store (that includes the introduction of the FtP system). The only advertisement done now is word of mouth by current or past players. Winchgate can't afford to advertise any more now than they ever could.

I would agree with that, if there really was something NEW coming from this restart. If, say, we had to return to barren land without any cities, outposts or temples... allowing us to re-conquer the land, to build stuff back in real time. I would not only play that... I'd love that.

But wiping our characters and keeping the rest of the world as it was (except perhaps some additional kitin) seems somewhat half-assed to me.

I've found this in the discussion on Massively:
The world shall survive, though not for us. But new people will be coming - to see, to discover, to reconquer what was left behind. While I can't speak for other oldtimers, I for sure intend to be there, doing my part: on Silan, helping newbies to find their way around the sweetest virtual world ever conceived. I am, and always have been, one of Chiang's rangers. And I'm sure I won't be alone there.
While our time on Atys has ended, we can at least make the transition smooth for the next generation.

I tend to agree with that sentiment. Even though we lose our stuff and our levels, we get to keep our knowledge, so we can still act as "progressors" (a term that would be familiar to any fan of obscure Soviet science fiction). It ain't easy to be a god, but we could certainly try and make the difference.

Many of the optimists around here seem to underestimate just how unknown Ryzom is. Of the very few people who will hear about the wipe'n'merge, most will say (are saying)... "That game still exists?"

The whole issue has become moot.

The devs came up with an option that I think is just fan=tastic.

I'm resubbing right after I post this.

Great solution by the devs. I am looking forward to becoming more active and discovering the world of Ryzom.
