Thanks to WebIG, you can preserve some pieces of your character's history.

This topic serves to remind people that this is possible and to provide suggestions for how to organize what you save.

How is it done? WebIG allows all players (even inactive accounts) to log into it, view their mail, view the forums, and even post to the forums. So, simply open your mailbox or guild forum and open a message/topic, then right click on the page and click "Save as..."

In the save window, you can choose between "Webpage, HTML Only" and "Webpage, Complete".

If you select Complete, a folder will be created alongside the resulting *.htm file containing all the images and stylesheets the page includes. In that case, the saved page will be easier to read because background images will be guaranteed to exist and load.

If you select HTML Only, only the *.htm file will be saved. Some images may load on it as long as they remain available on Ryzom's webserver. The lack of stylesheets may make non-image elements of the page look different, e.g. the green buttons will look however your operating system and browser want them to look by default.

To preserve the order of messages/topics, I started at the bottom of the last page of the mailbox/forum and worked my way from there to the top of the first page, naming each saved message/topic "1.htm", "2.htm", "3.htm" and so on. You will probably want to name them something like "0001.htm" and so on if your operating system has a different method of alphabetical sorting than Windows XP does.

For guild forum topics that had multiple pages, I named the first page "13a.htm", the second page "13b.htm", "13c.htm", and so on (for example).

I used a folder structure for organization:
- guild forums
-- (guild name)
- mail
-- (account name)
--- (character name)
---- inbox
---- outbox

If there was nothing in the outbox, I created a new text file with no contents and no extension named "no sent mail available" in the (character name) folder. If there was nothing in the inbox, I created the same type of file in the same place and named it "no mail received". If there was nothing in the inbox or the outbox, I did not create a folder for that character: instead I made one of those empty files in the (account name) folder called "no mail on (character name)".
