It is oriented PvP without being actually is the essential resource for PvP (sup not loot the marauder boss) but not that. It does not change the fact that it is unbalanced in the state for the sup (too many resources available for the current population of the server).
I am not convinced of the overwhelming amount of sup material. I will not be convinced of it until I see it for sale on the vendors or offered in trade or gift. Lower level OP materials (and even some high end OP materials) have been offered to me, so I might agree that they are over-abundant.
As for Supreme mats being necessary for PvP -- they are if you say they are.
I say that they are also necessary (or at least valuable) for PvE.
