IDEAS FOR RYZOM

The idea is that the 4 major cities in the game will have free portals to the other 3 cities.

This allows for easier travel around Atys to be able to play with other people.

Now I know you can buy a pact for 10k dapper at a city to teleport there. But that means that you would first have to find people to walk you though all the hostile territory to the other 3 major cities; which in my opinion is a pain and adds nothing to the game but a hassle.

Furthermore new player will not be 'stuck' in the city they choose when they leave Silan. They can now look around the different starting areas around the major cities and decide what suits them.

Note that this would still mean you have to buy pacts for other places outside the major cities in the world.

Please share your thoughts.

I'm sorry to hear your trek wasn't fun :(
but treks are such big part of the game world removing this would just take so much away from the game it would be a sad day on atys :(
maybe another idea lets remove mobs all tougether then we don't have to be scared when we run around freely and let sources heal instead of explode and so on ...

I see you feel very strongly about having treks and feel very passionately about not changing Ryzom. However this is the idea forum and your post is not very constructive about whether or not city portals are a good idea.

This idea does not prevent you or other people from doing a trek at all. I think it would only benefit treks because people can group up more easily by teleporting to the city of their choosing to start the trek.

You do know, that you can travel to another city alone, and you don't have to be 250 lvl melee for that? Besides, once you join a guild, trekking presents no issues at all. Your guildies will be glad to escort you wherever you want to. And if there is nobody online in your guild in your playing times, that means you probably picked up a wrong one.

Visiting other lands and cities for the first time is a challenge. Removing one of the challenges won't do the game any favor. Personally, I was willing to take it and had a lot of fun travelling around. What's wrong with people these days, they want to get everything now and immediately.

i don't really feel that strongly against not changing ryzom but some things should not be changed that's just my idea and about not being constructive well everyone has a free mind to tell what he thinks about something, it's not because it's an idea that it's per definition good

and about treks i do so many sometimes i'm tired of doing them myself but why would ppl get a choise what city they go to when 5sec later they can port everywhere

and i also think it would not be so great for the community, alot of ppl learn to know their first friends on the mainland during a trek and it's also a great way for the refugees to learn about guilds and the different factions and civilisations this would be gone. well i know some guilds wouldn't mind it they just send invites to everyone not guilded they see but some guilds really like doing treks to learn about the refugees first.

And it's already possible to get to desert from other main cities (Atleast FH, not sure about other ones).

Just buy an apartment, go to your apartment, and quit the game or crash while it's downloading. I always end up near the northern portal in Dunes of Exiles when I log back in.

Haha, I dont think quiting the game during loading to be ported to the dunes is a good thing. More of an exploit.

I wonder how you feel about teleport pacts. Do you use them? Do you think they should be removed from the game?

I wonder how you feel about them. Do you think the entire pack of tickets for all regions should be handed to the player right on the start, along with refugee pick and armor?

You have to work first and put some effort into getting the pacts for easy travels later. You only do that once. That's a fair deal in my opinion.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding some posts so please clarify why exactly it is a bad idea to have portals to other major cities.
If you explore the world, either solo or by group, then your (possible) reward is teleport ticket to that place.

if you are given access by default to other parts of the world, then exploration would be meaningless.

Limiting player options when they don't yet know anything and removing those limits gradually (by exploring) is good thing imho.

If you look at exploration as something to accomplish like getting better at fighting and crafting or doing missions etc. then I guess it does makes sense. Good insight, thanks.

You are even rewarded for exploration in this game with ryzom ring materials if you look under "p" (identity) => advanced stats => there you see knowledge of atys this how much you explorered and is directly linked with what you can do in the ring.

Budin, I hate that your trek experience was not a good one. There are many players out there that love to help get refugees to the other cities (in fact, my guild leads a weekly trek for any and all players, new or old alike) and can always be asked to organize one at a specific date/time.

Ryzom is an adventure and we refugees are all about adventure/exploring. Just because "we had to do it," does not mean that we want everyone else to "suffer" as we did (trekking back in the old days was a lot harder and required 2 - 3 teams of players; today it can be done in small groups). Trekking is not a punishment for many old players, it is one of the favorite passtimes! Not only does it help us to hone or skills and seek/find adventure, it lets us meet new refugees and get to know them a bit, perhaps even determine if they would be a fit in our guilds.

A huge part of the Ryzom community is that we love to help others, take trekking away and you would be missing one large part of the community experience. Yes, we could still trek, but for what purpose if new players could already access all the continents? I think that as you progress in Ryzom (making one huge assumption you are a new player - so could be totally off on this) that you will come to find how beneficial the treks themselves are to our community base.

As far as your idea, and only my opinion, I like the reward for effort system already in place in regard to the teleport pacts and access to various locations around Atys. It only makes sense, if you have not been somewhere you have not made the necessary contacts to access quick transport to the location. Also note that most MMOs do have this same type of system in one form or another, transporting/traveling to, map visibility, etc.

I can understand how treks are fun for higher level players but for me as a new low level character it consisted of being on follow for an hour not being able to contribute (kill, heal, forage etc.) anything. Just dying a lot.

Now for me the main reason to be able to go to different cities is to be able to play with people who are over there. So thats where the city portals idea came from. I think there are enough other areas to explore beside the cities.

Also because low level players are bound to the lower level area's around cities for me it would be logical for low level players to be able to reach each other more easily. Plus as a low level I don't have enough dappers to keep purchasing 10k pacts to travel to friends in other cities.

#14 [en]

Tackling points in reverse, it's very possible to have multiple millions in dappers before leaving Silan, just by doing the quests, selling your crafted results and any loot you don't want to use for crafting, and not buying every single item from the shops there the moment you can equip it. The important items you will actually get for free, from the quest-givers. If you do all of Chaing's quests, you'll even get a rather nice set of armour.

Low level players are also not bound anywhere. Some places are just not safe. What may be an impassable wall of aggro right now could change in a few minutes, or next season. Or another path could open itself up. In the majority of cases, your ability to go where you want to go depends on you, your abilities as a person in real life to be patient and cunning and to watch for patterns and cycles in aggro behaviour.

Portals in the cities really don't fit in the theme of the game. I strongly suspect portals wouldn't be used between zones if the developers could work it that way. There are Karavan and Kami altars in the cities which may allow you to use their services for a teleport, but that's it.

And finally, on treks, EVERY heal is appreciated. In fact, if you're not close to master melee or elemental, most of the time you will be specifically asked to heal. Kilgoretrout said it best on BM's last trek: a 1 hp heal could mean the difference between life and death. If the person leading the trek is competent and the people on the trek are good at following instructions and observing, there is actually minimal fighting and much less dying.

When on treks, it's also very important to pay attention to what's around you. You may find that you want to come back to a particular spot later in your Ryzom life. But don't feel bad. Everyone playing the game had to go through a trek at least once in their life. Some of us enjoy doing it more regularly.

#15 [en]

Though this is not really to the topic, I feel that I should at least respond to your concerns :-).

Yes, your experience of trekking sounds a bit boring. No need to AF, unless it is an alt account. Everyone can contribute heals, I don't see why anyone would turn that down - it is only 1 hp between life and coma.

Advantage of Ryzom's system: you do not have to group with low level players to be able to work together. A higher level player can still work with you out of team for all damage dealing skills you might be working. If you want to work heal or afflictions you can be low level and earn XP in a group with a higher level player. You are not limited to who you group with because of your skill level and you are not bound to those areas unless you are only grouping with other low level players.

Looting while leveling will give you enough mats to sell for dappers to purchase your TPs and then some :) Crafting said mats into items will give you even more dappers for your mats plus crafting XP plus the benefit of learning about mobs/resources/materials/recipies as you go along. Find a few missions to do as well and you can earn dapper (and possibly fame) for doing the things you were going to do already anyway. Also, there are many homin out there who don't mind helping a young refugee out with a few dappers here and there.

I just feel that the idea of a free city portal system would detract more from the game experience than it would enhance. There is a lot more to traveling/exploring unvisited regions than just meeting up with other new players.

Edit: Sorry for duplication of what Erizon posted - I was apparently preparing my post while she made hers :)
