yes, in French for ex, UIis, depending on the time, either translated to

unemployment insurance or European Union... LOL

(I added that on the list)

So, DeepL is doing a couple of wierd things.

1) Had a player with a Fench client say "Je suis FR moi" which translated as "Iam EN me". Why did "FR" get translated as "EN"?

2) A couple of lines later the same player said "ApresYaandor drapeau english" which showed up as "ApresYaandor drapeau francais". "Apres" didn't translate due to the missing space, "drapeau" (flag) didn't translate and "english" got translated as "francais".

3) So apparently DeepL doesn't recognize the french word "drapeau".

yes, in French for ex, UI is, depending on the time, either translated to unemployment insurance or European Union

So if i typed "UB" 40 would it translate to

a) The UK Unemployment Insurance Application Form
b) The new wave / reggae / pop band
c) Ask the player if they were 40 years old

In French, the word "toubib" colloquially designates the doctor.
It is never abbreviated (as far as I know) in common parlance, but DeepL here tried (to its credit!) to find the word of which "toub" was the abbreviation… Because "toub" is indeed an abbreviation: the one (very) used by the FR players of Ryzom to designate the "mektoub".

NB : It is only to be hoped that DeepL reads this thread :-)

I guess not but I have put it in the list.

Good start as a DeepL assistant, Moniq!

I would say, however, that this quadrilingual list should, in my opinion, be split into two, or even three:
  • a list of proper nouns, geographical or otherwise, specific to our favorite planet;
  • a list of words and expressions, specific or not, commonly used by video gamers;
  • a list of the abbreviations alone of any word (identified in EN in an initial column) from the above lists.

See you at my next burst of laughter when reading an attempt from DeepL, Moniq :-)

I am not sure what you mean, for now it has 11 categories. DeepList is just a tool to collect troublesome terms and its correct translations, if possible. The database is available via export/API.

Categories are not any important for the system that does corrections (currently being tested - requires access to Test Team board). It is using the DeepList export to update own dictionaries, those being applied on translations on-the-fly.

The list and the way how Ryzom will correct DeepL translations is mostly being discussed on #pj-ryzom_wiki on Ryzom Chat. It is be better to talk with Dorothee or Zorroargh about terms and participating on the list or with Ulukyn about how the correction is being implemented.

I am no linguist, I can only try to implement additional options for the list itself if it needs to cover some specific situations. On the other hand, the goal is not to improve DeepL translations, just to correct the worst when a specific term translation is misleading. Like the "toub".

Mea culpa Moniq, and sorry for my too quick examination of the list you linked first… and thanks for the links you give just above (huge work! bows)
