IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Off the top I'll let anyone reading this know that it is 1:33am for me and this is serious but also somewhat playful.

So because of all the long waiting on weather I had enough time to design this concept picture. Keep in mind it's not meant to be taken 100% seriously as per the actual content of the image but... it IS an interesting idea if it could be balanced in a way that does not break the game

While for some reason... someone turned off the lights in the roots, a light bulb went off in my head and said... Loved, why not design a concept...

Disclaimer: I am not trying to make the game easy or kill the fun for anyone who just enjoys the pain and difficulty and reward of weather and patience, especially in the roots. I understand why this pain is considered by veterans as something that makes you tough and resilient and I respect this with sincerity.

P.S. The cost for the stanza is just my way of poking fun at it. I want everyone to realise that IF this even got considered I'm not asking for a freebie in roots, the cost should be high (of course the cost in the pic is stupid-high on purpose)

Complicate ^^

A simple "no weather for choice mats" implementation would be enough, not only in roots but also on the surface, as it's a pain in the ass to wait for gathering such low mats while exping because of it. I really don't understand why this was ever implemented (having weather on the surface when digging choice from a multi-spot).

Now this said, i think weather should remain for the "special" mats (exe/sup) and i'm not sure that the idea of some stanza options, especially with such costs is the right idea. But yes, weather system could be modified in my opinion, but only for choice, to make digging exp smoother.

Um. Weather does *not* apply to choice mats on the surface except for the choice mats that are associated with an exe mat source. The choice mats in the same fields with the basic and fine mats are *never* weathered. This is why choice in PR is weathered -- it's associated with exe (and sup) in all cases.

Therefore we can simplify still further for choice mats -- it's only in PR.
I could also see making it so that using the Ignore Weather stanza would multiply the Kami irritation per mat. (That would take some serious server side programming, but so would this whole concept.)

Choice suffers from weather problems if it shares a spot with another excellent, on surface. It's a known bug.

Umm... what I said?

Not a bug. Choice variant is listed on the same deposit as excellent is. If the deposit would contain basic or fine variants, then those too would be weathered.

In PR there is three separate deposits for each grade. If the deposits are located on same spot, then deposits overlap.

It is a bug (or an error) from a software testing perspective. That is, the documentation + expectations and the actual software don't agree.

In this case, player expectation is that non-PR below-excellent materials do not / cannot suffer from weather. This is reaffirmed by the vast majority of the game world, which perform exactly as described. Other authoritative sources of information do not exist.

The problem arises because, as you said, someone was lazy enough and created a deposit which contains both excellent and choice materials. A player prospecting for a specific grade (choice) gets an unexpected result (weather!), due to mechanics of weather (it being defined at deposit level). A simple separation of the materials in two deposits would solve the discrepancy.

Yes, it is not a technical bug, nothing to fix in the code. It is still a bug from a player perspective. Even if Winch Gate themselves were to come and say "this is intended", it would still violate the principle of having coherent rules in the game world..

@Loved : sorry, kinda derailed your topic. Your proposal would make a very nice scenario in a Pocket World, if they ever become a thing. In the current game world, I simply don't see how you would make it work..

I agree.. surface choice needs to be removed from basic/fine nodes ;-)

Off topic, what is the point of the stanzas "choice maximum" and "excel maximum", we better need "choice minimum" and "excel minimum".

#12 [en]

Well no, sometimes you want to extract basic or fine mats in forest to do lake mission if you don't master lake harvest, in that case those stanzas make sense...
But having at least choice etc could make sense too :)

Or removed from the surface exe nodes. As it stands choice can be used to grind crafts while producing somewhat useful products. That's a good thing with the current economy.

So lets assume you are a high level forager
Is it conceivable that you may... perhaps... have figured out some techniques to...

1) gather choice materials in roots even if the weather is not quite right
2) gather excellent materials on the surface even if the weather is not quite right

perhaps with some limitations such as "for the next 10 minutes"
Just putting some ideas out there

Sometimes I just want to pinch a few mats and not wait 2 days for it, shrug

Again it was kind of a fun idea when the lights were off and I had time to think
