IDEAS FOR RYZOM

i agree that silan missions shouldn't be required of every player, meaning more those that have already played the game lot, i've found that leaving silan as a lvl 1 doing none of the missions brings you to the ML with negitive fame with all but your race's civ, but if you do ALL the missions offered in silan, you come to the main land with 0 fame all around, while 0 fame isn't really that good, at least the guards won't attack you when your treked to a new capital. also i'm with someone that said all the dappers you can make in silan, there the money still seams to flow pretty freely in comparison to the ML econ. and the gear you get in silan is good for a new toon. someone that doesn't already know a player on the ML or have a waiting guild isn't likely to play long and if they're a f2p toon just trying the game out, they're going to find the game far to hard to play and go to (sorry for cursing) world of warcraft, a game that like my quote says, give's you a cookie no matter what you do. i myself like the challenge of ryzom, but i'm an old skool player, i remember 2-bit and 8-bit game console, even owned more then a few of them, so i find the depth and challenge of ryzom a very nice thing indeed, i love the smaller community base then games like "WoW", with those games there's so many ppl you don't get a chance to get to know or making it much harder to find players that have a play style that fits your own play style, or there's such a large selection that it's hard to find one that you feel "at home" with. i myself love the big tree known as ryzom, and i spent 15 months in silan, i did every mission there, and spent months beyond those trying to get my skills higher and higher there, trying to get all my skills up to 51, there's no ranged training on silan and i find that a major short comming as it's one of the skill tree branches that will open up prior to or just as you complete the "fight" missions, and why isn't there a teacher there for that, that tells you to work your melee skills more to unlock their missions once you reach lvl 20 in fight? here i'm a long time player, but my lowest skill today is still ranged fight at 33 or so (i'm using the browser so i can say all i want, but can't check my skill tree to see what it's still at, lolx, just hope i don't get auto logged) perhaps i would have worked my ranged fight up more if there had been silan ranged fight missions. while silan get's old after you do all the missions, there's still things you can do there like gain xp in lvl's but as a free to play toon it's pains takingly slow, something that you can do slightly faster with cat's that you might be fortunate enough to get form a vet player (like myself).

in the end i say yes you should be able to leave silan whenever you want, but that the few basic training missions should be required, however bypassable with some sort of quick test, something that a vet player could do but that a brand new player that's not done the training missions could do. perhaps edit a stanza, something that i didn't really learn to do untill i was on the mainland, even though missions tought me to do it in silan i had never done it there, i did it under the guidence of a long time player helping me get the most out of an attack stanza. so even if you do everything in silan, you don't always learn it there.

i've said alot and i'm know to be long winded when it comes to my thoughts, sorry for that my longtime friends in the forum like bitty and sub, i'll see you around the big tree. and i hope that my thoughts don't upset anyone, it's just my thoughts on the idea and my own xp with silan.

I support the idea of a requirement for leaving Silan, but not necessarily tied up with any of the missions. Just as an idea: how about requiring toons leaving Silan to have done the following:
  • Edited or created one custom stanza
  • Cast one spell with magic amplifiers equipped
  • Killed one mob (any mob)
  • Harvested one mat
  • Crafted one item
  • Learned any spell with a "heal hp" effect

i've found after making some f2p toons after the merger that doing missions in silan have nothing to do with fame, what i was speaking of was due to the resets at merger, thus nothing you do in silan has any effect on your fame.

i agree that those would be good guide lines for requirements though, as those are things that always seam to be an issue with players that leave silan too soon, because we always seam to be telling people how to do those things if they have left silan too soon.

I am with this idea as those are trivial for returnees and alts to do, yet vital things for newbies to learn. If you can't do those things, then you really shouldn't be on Mainland, and if you won't (or can't) learn, then you probably shouldn't be in an MMORPG (or maybe not even a computer) in the first place.

Players get warned for at least 2-3 times, that they cannot go back and if they are really sure to leave.
When they get lost in the mainland, they could try to have a look into the ingame help document or creating a new toon...in my opinion :)

When players are just "rushing" through the tutorial island, it is their own fault and they should not wonder, when they become to a <?,?> face :P

- On first login you get a window that this is the tutorial island, etc...
- You have to go to Chiang to take the leave mission
- Do you really want to leave? You cannot go back
- Have a talk with the 4 trainers in the camp
- go to Chiang, where he tells you again you cannot go back (as far as I remember right here)
- Go to Kami/Karavan master to leave
- When you leave, you cannot go back

Isn't that enough? xD

Why have rules that stop any homin from coming over to ML - are they hanging around our ankles?
If they think they have made an error they can reroll and do it again

Just a note - do not believe that homins will read all those instructions about how to make actions and things ... lot of reading there ...

And +1 for Freddie and Subbo 9 months back

Maybe the wrong topic, but I really want to know who are the smartasses who tell newcomers they NEED and MUST stay in Silan until they're at lest level 50 before leaving the place.

I've met quite a few people saying they got that advice, and it's just as idiotic as leaving Silan with no knowledge of the game.

yup, i got that advice... i followed it and stayed til i hit lvl50 in fight... then got bored, ignored the 'advice' and came straight here.
i think if i had come here at a lower lvl i would have avoided the huge shock of being near indestructable on silan to having the strength of a water balloon on the mainland.
that's about it.
there was another guy and silan with me called nitehawk, he was ace! a very nice guy, intelligent and quick witted. he stayed on silan and got everything to 50 but when he came to ml it was such a difference/shock that he quit the game... just never logged back in - i wonder if he had come over earlier would he still be here.

I probably stayed on Silan a bit too long this time around.

The main reason was a bad memory from when I started with Ryzom several years back. I left too soon then and basically died every time I left Pyr. Played for about a week and quit.

Fast forward to now: Stayed on Silan until I was sure I could manage to at least move around the Pyr area without it constantly being lethal.

Some observations:
* The difference between Silan and the mainland was still very present.
* The mainland is way more lethal than Silan; it can be quite a shock to the uninitiated;
* Gingos use steroids; they are friggin dangerous;
* The area around Pyr is not friendly to a new player.

I can't judge the other starting areas, I've only played Fyros until now.

TLDR: I can imagine people giving new players the advice to stay in Silan until a higher level. If you prefer a solo playstyle, level 50 is not excessive. Join a guild and things are very different.

+1 Mj, and it is so different on Silan, if they are going to stay on Atyss they need to come over - Lakes and Jungle are the safest places for sqidges

Bah, they need to come and have fun in the sun in the desert. Also leave Silan as soon as you can, there are no meks to gas in Silan.

I'm with Rollocks - why start in a 'safe' area on the Mainland?  If you want a real challenge though, come to the Forest - the Gingos and Raguses get hungry very quickly.
