A week or so ago the Ryzom client suddenly started taking 20-30 seconds to start up instead of the usual 3 seconds.

By this I mean that I click on an icon to start it, the UAC (Win 7) asks if I want to run the program, and then the computer sits there for some time before displaying the splash screen and the login page.  Once I have logged in, the rest of the loading takes place at normal speed.

The really strange thing is that there doesn't seem to be any activity by the Ryzom client during this process (as evaluated by looking at the System Monitor.

Has anyone else seen this?  Have an explanation?

This sounds to be an issue with windows. When you cklick the ryzom icon, windows defender or how it is called "checks" the activitys of the program you want to start and if it seems clear windows starts it. When you turn of this feature of windows it seems for me to start normal again. Perhaps an update of windows?

Befor i turned it off it sometimes toke minutes till this stupid window asking for permission appeared for me.

Nope, I have UAC disabled and always have...seeing this same behavior on two very different computers. WIndows did update yesterday but the behavior started between any updates or changes to software on either machine.

This is happening for me as well. It started about 5 days ago and takes about 6-7 mins to load until I get a log in screen. I was thinking it was a windows 8 thing, although it wasn't doing this before on 8.

I also have a really bad memory leak with the client. I can open task manager and watch the memory use climb non stop until eventually the program crashes.

I am running Windows 8 with UAC turned off on a i5 quad core with 8gig of ram . I don't have this problem with any other games or programs and have not made any changes to my software in that time.

Edit:
No windows defender, I use cloud based Symantec Endpoint protection 13 since version 12 doesn't work with windows 8.

I got an in-game reply from Tiximei last night and she(?) is pushing it up the line to the devs.  It does look as if one of the invisible patches (possibly for the Kitin clearing event?) screwed up something in the client.

By the way, the client has always taken pretty much as much memory as it can grab and all the available CPU, that's nothing new.

Well, I just started the client and got my expected quick response, so someone must have done *something* to fix the problem.  I wonder what, and did the others of you with slow start also find it fixed?
