Hello everyone. I'm NA, English user on Mac/Linux. I started yesterday after work.

I formerly was a strict Debian user, but eventually became tired of unable to use certain software due to industry lock-out and switched to Mac OS last year. It's alright. I don't miss Debian too much.

However, I tried the game with Mac and Debian the yesterday.

What I recall about playing on Debian was that I couldn't. Since I didn't understand why the game performed so poorly, I assumed it was a problem with the game and stopped playing. This week however, I discovered that the performance on Mac is better despite running hotter.

So I lowered the graphics quite a bit, and Mac still runs well but cooler.

So I decided to try on my large desktop Debian machine. I downloaded the game from Steam and tried running it in default settings. The game could not stop halting and had terrible FPS. I lowered the graphics below that of my Mac (which would be strange, as the desktop has better specs) and found that the Mac still ran better at higher and lower graphic settings.

What may be wrong? Can I do something differently to improve the Linux performance, or should I not bother?

Thank you!

You should start by not running it from steam. Even with a potato machine you should get decent performances.

If you don't have any package or other Debian specific way to install Ryzom, you may be interested in the manual installation method.

As an experiment, I tried running Ryzom as a binary with all other apps turned off on Mac. The perform is much, much better and runs cooler. Thank you for the suggestion.
