I tried this game a few years ago and remember liking it. I couldn't keep playing at the time but I now find myself with some free time and thought of giving this a shot.

So, I come to the forums and notice that the population appears to have been drastically reduced. There doesn't seem to be many posts or movement as there were a few years ago. Am I right? I'd like to know how the in-game population is before I download this, will I find other toons to group with? is the chat/market alive?.

I really enjoyed this game at the time and would like to give it a try but I should confess I'm a bit hesitant now. Please prove me I'm wrong! :)

You are right that population is somewhat less than a few years ago. During summer time population is even lower. But you will easily find people to group and chat with. On mainland between level 0 and 80 it might be difficult because that level range can be completed very quickly.

An open market never really was there; most trades are done with crafters: materials for items. And you will find many crafters too.

Depending on how many "a few" years are, you might even find the population up. There was a severe minimum in the population just before the release of the Linux and Mac versions (and the opensourcing of the code).

I find 20 to 30 homins in my friends list on most of the time at about 0300GMT, and am told that this is the slow time of day for the server. It's not a huge population, but it is active.

As Ulykus says, the markets are a little on the defunct side, but you can almost always get some stuff made if you're willing to wait a day to get the right person online.

Welcome Melynna - There may well be fewer players than last time you were active - I don't know I've only been playing just over a year. I know for sure most of us would like the population to be bigger.

Whatever the reason for the low numbers, you will find people to talk to and group with for boss hunts, treks etc. Why not download the game and jump in - I'm sure you will enjoy reacquainting yourself with Atys and rediscovering the fun of being here.
