Hello, myself and a few others have tried to download Ryzom directly from the Ubuntu Software Center, and receive an error while on the download phase. I tried to run the .7z file, and extracted it, but it is choppy graphics wise. I know this is deff. playable on 11.04, but 11.10? Please help, as I plan on resubscribing this Friday.

The official binaries suck for 64bit boxes...

I just use Kervala's binaries... They work very, very, very well.

I always use the terminal... Not sure how to do this in the GUI. If you open a terminal you can type:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:kervala/ryzom
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ryzom-client

Then you can run, (as your user, without the sudo command), ryzom.sh

It tries to find the data files in your home directory, If it doesn't find them it will try to download again.

Sweet, I prefer to use the terminal also... on the install ryzom - client part now...

After I type in the ryzom.sh I get

ryzom.sh: command not found

Even if I open up ryzom by searching for it, while downloading I get an error stating that it could not download. The closest I get to running is when I use the .7z file and update/run it, but the game is really choppy.

Complications... :-)

No problem. Let's see if the download was corrupted:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get install ryzom-client


Then try running ryzom.sh again.

If it doesn't work, i need to see the output of this command:
sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/ryzom-client_0.8.1847~oneiric1_amd64.deb

P.S. General security tip: don't trust me or anyone else. If you have absolutly no idea what the commands do don't type them :-)

Ahh, I know somewhat of these.. Didn't work, here is the outcome of that code..

That error indicates the file isn't there... :-)

Do that after
sudo apt-get install ryzom-client

And then:
sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/ryzom-client (and then press the TAB key, it should auto-complete the name of the file for you)

After typing ryzom.sh, the game doesn't open, but terminal shows a bunch of links, and stuff... (lots of stuff)

Then doesn't open...

The ryzom.sh is having problems downloading from sourceforge.net... It's that site's problem :(

I just tried it in my box and it's also having problems. Eventually worked after trying 3 or 4 times.

Try a few times too.

If you know how to create directories and move files around, you can also copy the contents of the "data" folder you already extracted to this directory:
/home/administrator/.ryzom/data

This will even save you the download time... As ryzom.sh will find all it needs already there :)

I may have ubuntu on my machine, but I am not that good yet... I guess I will have to deal with the choppiness for now.

OK. Note that copying files around is just like in the other OS's... You open 2 file managers and drag files around.


But... Try running ryzom.sh again. Several times. Maybe sourceforge's mirrors are working well now.
It will eventually work :-)

After you getting that to work, I can play very cleanly for about 10 minutes until the client just closes without warning... What should I do?
