Hello again, I'm just here to let you all know I decided to make a video about the games character creation after I did my review. Please check it out and like and subscribe... It would help a bunch!

Matis don't have elf ears 'cause they're not elves. They're neither wise nor magicky enough to be elves. >.>

In seriousness, though, it does bug me when people (not you specifically - loads of people do it) try to find a WoW-esque equivalent to everything in Ryzom. Animals are "monsters", sap is mana, Matis are elves... it misses the beauty of Ryzom by lumping brilliantly original* concepts in with vaguely similar mass-produced ones, and ignoring the subtle but very significant differences that make Ryzom unique.

I totally agree on the ZoraÏ being Hawaiians, though. I'm not sure what the comment about losing skills referred to, though, perhaps that's a new thing that I'm not aware of - either way, it's a good basic explanation for newbies. Hopefully they won't take your advice on how to make a pretty toon, mind. ;)

* I realise that the ideas are not all original individually - Atys is hardly the first world wherein characters draw strength from plant-life substances such as sap, for example. However, it's a hell of a lot more original than mana, and taken as a whole I've never seen anything truly analogous to Ryzom or Atys.

It should be noted that there is NOT a skill point/stanza reset from Silan to the ML. Everything you buy, you keep and you have to earn skill points to buy the next upgrades/stanzas/actions. Once you have them you keep them for your entire Ryzom life. :)

That's odd, the character I made for this review has all of his points back. Which is why I said that.

Had the points back and kept the skills? Unlikely.
Points back and lost the skills? Even more unlikely.

I believe you might have leveled with the trial missions without realizing or forgot to visit the trainers at all. It can happen, don't worry. But the mechanics of the game never once had a skill reset because it is not needed for Ryzom.

And an other thing:

There are 3 servers:
Aniro (communaute francophone -> French-speaking community)
Leanon (Deutsche Community -> German-speaking community)
Arispotle (English-speaking community)

you totally missed the french one and actually afaik most dutch people ar in the english speaking community and not the german one ;-)

How are the Zorai similar to Hawaiians?

And if you don't mind me asking, why is the character creation video here much more "advance" looking than the actual one in the game?

because that trailer is actually from 2003 (the 3 is hidden by the IGN logo - but it's visible here in the original video )
so it was shot during the beta where it was the actual character creation which since then has been redesigned though.
