Trixie
Yeah I didn't see it in ToS either
Suboxide
I did a quick ctrl+F on ryzom CoC/CoC2/ToS and some other things but I can find anywhere where it says universe is english only.

Sywindt (CSR): FYI, the current Arispotle policy on universe chat is...

If something said from Sywindt keyboard isn't equal to ToS, then let you just take over it. And we all then listen to Trixie and Sub, why would we need any CSR's at all?

for the lazy ones, the above link states (signed by Sywindt (CSR))
Universe chat is for Ryzom Q and A.

However, some chit-chat is allowed, provided it is Ryzom related, relevant and in English, does not degenerate into a monologue or is dominated by a small group of people. Also, when a player asks for help, unrelated chit-chat may not interfere with any answers, or 'drown out' the question.

That was posted 3 month ago from me writing this. If you find a more recent post where a CSR changed that "in English" rule, let me know. If not, then please just use English in uni. Period.

That should be advertised somewhere official if they want that to be followed by ppl.

It's a post number 12 in a 3 month old idea posted on the ideas forums (I didn't search the ideas forums, but that's not in the ToS like you said).

Like I said I'm open for something official.
But how in hells name can you imagine bobs to find that? Second nowhere it is stated that something in the ideas forums counts as a rule even if a csr says it and nobody is ever directed to that post when reading anything game related.

Don't get mistaken I myself know uni is english only, but for ppl playing the game reading all official rules it's nowhere stated. And with the added community's something has to change for those ppl so atleast they know how uni works and even beter give them their own uni.

ps. And reading syw's post I can interpret that as "chit chat has to be in english" says nothing about a question has to be in english (atleast thats an interpretation a non english speaker as myself reads that sentence)

ps2. And I know a csr will post in one off the coming days here that uni is english only but then that will still impossible to find for bobs, and that will give those bobs still no place to chat with ppl. This topic is about that something should be changed so those ppl get a place to chat since they are using a support language.

Yes, I understand a regular bob won't find it.
Someone should say that to regular bob in uni when bob starts speaking non-english. It should be a CSR i guess, but well, we all want to help only.

And yes, your points now in the last post are totally what's going in my mind also.

Your statement is exactly what I've been trying to bring across since I started the topic. The topic has never been about pointing fingers, but to point out that the problem lies in:

1) Some players not informed/aware that our server is home to 3 language groups.

2) No visible chat channels for the other two communities in our server where they can ask for help in their language.

3) And the poor translation of the Universal channel rules.

I started a channel for Latinos so they have a place to communicate and find help. We have some regular Spanish only speaking players and some bilingual players answering questions in the channel. If the channel were to be visible or given as an option from the start we wouldn’t be reading Spanish Q&A in the “English only” Uni channel. I don’t think that adding a statement saying English only to the Spanish or Russian pop up window for Uni is going to solve the problem.

I started the topic so we can ALL discuss the matter and help improve our communities. I’ve given suggestions, ideas, and recommendations to improve the issue. I’ve expressed my opinion. I’m not doing this to win popularity votes or to gain haters. I’m discussing it because 1) I happen to be Spanish-American and can relate 2) I want to improve a game I’ve enjoyed playing since 2005.

Having followed the topic and seeing where it's going I can't help to comment as well.

I can't really relate to the issue directly as I don't have first hand experience on how spread the problem is on Arispotle, but I can still understand all sides.

I want to second and expand on a previous suggestion from this thread:
  • Create one Universe for each language supported by the client (fr, en, de, es, ru)
  • Then mark the universe related to the main language on the server as default (en on Ari) and disable those that are related to other servers (fr, de on Ari)
  • Finally modify the universe message in a manner that shows that the other language Universes can be activated via a right click on any chat tab and activating the appropriate check box(es)
This is a bit more abstracted so it does match all servers - but it's still something that can only be done by the devs :-(

As a intermediary measure I'd suggest this:
  • Ask the CSR team to create a sticky thread that describes the issue in all languages (yada yada universe is en only as that's the main language spoken yada yada please use the command .... to join the chat for for es and ... for ru Q&A by players yada yada)
  • Add typical question phrases like "Where can I find XXX" and a suggested (nice) reply as a hint to the es/ru channel (including the command) to that same thread (best with the en version as well so everyone knows what it means)
  • Alternatively just write the typical question words like "why", "where", "how", ... instead of the typical questions

So if someone asks "¿Dónde está el Kincher?" the answer won't be the current "english only" thing but something like "Lo sentimos, no puedo entender su pregunta, pero por favor, introduzca /channel latino para entrar en una alternativa de habla española como universo de esta charla es el Inglés solamente" (sorry, google translate - should be something like "Sorry, I can't understand your question but please enter /channel Latino to enter a Spanish speaking universe alternative as this chat is English only") which would be the suggested answer from the thread.

Technically, if it's not written within the document titled Terms of Service, it's not part of the ToS, period. If they want to make that a ToS item, they would have to modify the ToS itself. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to go about modifying a ToS because afaik the ToS is a legal document because not only can the company use it to allow/deny/etc service to customers(players), but customers can also hold the company to the terms listed in the ToS. They'd have to hire a lawyer to make any changes to it, just to cover their butts.

CSR's can make policies and rules, but what they type/say can't be considered ToS unless they are quoting directly from the ToS.

Meagon started great FAQ topic a while back. If names of language channels were added and few kind souls would translate the topic all we'd need from devs was link from client's help page. This would probably remove half the Uni questions.
