While strolling around, I came up with the idea of having to obtain your own mount and packer from the wild. Instead of paying for one, you have to go out and grasp it yourself. Lets say, you come straight off the mainland, you can go get a basic level 50 mektoub, and that would have a certain ammount of storage. As you progress through the levels, lets say you are now a level 150 in melee, you could go get a level 200 mektoub for use as a mount or packer, but they also have more hp and carrying space, as it is a higher level. (I say higher HP as it is a pain when you are trekking with them, and they die. Please tell me what you think..

Actually your idea is quiet old.

There has been talk of a "taming" skill for a long time already.
I'd much rather see this skill included than making it possible for everyone to just hunt AND catch the mektoubs.

For one, there is a dapper overflow and nothing that can really get it down. Yes there are Pets and they might need feeding but it's not very much, neither do the teleportation pacts cost a lot. And yes there are NPC items and the wheel of fortune as well but both are no real dapper sinks as they are either not used at all (who would wear those things?) or only by those that have too many dappers and can get lots more in "no time".

So if the taming skill where included you'd only have a tamed mektoub (or other animal) following you anywhere (without any cargo space or possibility to mount) and you'd have to give it to a stable boy to get it geared up (for a small fee of course)

We could add another suggestion here where the gear could be crafted by players as well. (was somewhere in this forum) - following the thing mentioned above you'd have to pay the stable boy to change the gear as well making it a small but long term dapper sink in addition to the fun of catching the critters ;-)

I guess this game is inflated like RL..maybe the devs should come up with a way to kill some of those dappers, or maybe if we hand it to the new members that are fresh off Silan. Perhapse the game could have some taxes on it when you trade? some of that money goes into the game.

The best way of de-inflating the economy is to make NPC basic Q mats available all the way to q250.

While it is slightly off topic here, I could imagine a solution for dapper inflation, namely allowing additional rooms in the apartment, with, say 1000 addititional bulk, each of them costing a power of 10 more than the previous one, 2nd room 10m, 3rd 100m and so on. It could become a matter of prestige to own a large apartment, and the dappers would be gone.

that would be nice and helpful...

I like this idea.

I am finding it interesting how one thing leads to another.. perhapse the title should be changed to "Dappers Inflation"? :D

It's a shame that, like many other ideas Nevrax had, the training skill was never implemented. I always fancied having a pet Ocyx. :-)

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

I don't recall there was ever a plan to have a training skill. There was a plan for us to have children and pass away due to age.

Now that would have been quite avant garde. Don't think any corporate publisher would dare try something like that.
Shame in a way that they didn't get the opportunity.

It was definitely mentioned by someone, maybe it was just a suggestion. Like Jarnys I remember this being discussed many times.

Taming mektoubs would be per se an absolutely great addition to the game. I always wondered why was it not added to the occupations. But the effort the newbie is investing in buying the stable ones is one of the few money sinks in the game.

Still don't allow a pure monetary vision misslead you. Like any closed world in which money are poured in but never or seldom go out Ryzom has inflation. All MMOs older than 1-2 years have. But the community here adapted in a particular way. Thus the community works with two layers of money*. First from lvl 1 to about 150-200 there are dappers, but after that level the real money in game are the materials. Everything in game that is for sale at all (there are rare items that simply cannot be bought, about in the same way one cannot just go and buy Mona Lisa) sells for materials: from grind/ammo q250 choice mats to the uberest boss q270 mat.
Therefore in spite of oldies who have hundreds of billions of dappers, the inflation is not that deep as it may seem at first look.

*Money is _any_ object or record that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts in a given country or socio-economic context.
