OK this one's a biggie but its worth thinking about. We've got Jungle, Forest, Desert and Lakelands. New regions could be another area of Forest, etc. or something different. An Arctic region is pretty different.

- Permanent Winter
- Region - specific Flora and Fauna (the place should be teeming with life like all the other regions)
- Region - specific Bandits + other tribes
- existing Cold resistance could be used as a survival factor - with a low value you 'Suffer Cold Damage' like Goo Damage, + this would slowly kill you. Anyone wanting to survive for long in this region would need a high Cold Resistance
- Specialised clothing with high Cold Resistance boost
- Ability to make Campfires would also be necessary access to the region

They may not need to add new regions yet and an Underwater Region may be further along the development path but I think this would be easier to implement.

:P I was actually just thinking about an arctic region the other day. It would be interesting. If implemented, I'd suggest 1) creatures there aren't affected by cold spells at all, but extra by fire. 2) Because of this, the general level should be slightly higher (fire's not available until ~100 or 125, iirc). 3) Camp fires wouldn't be absolutely necessary, but could cancel environmental cold damage in their area of effect, and possibly heal damage caused by environmental cold (of course that means this would have to be tracked) slowly. Do camp fires do anything but look pretty right now?

An underwater area that you can swim down into (thinking how WoW does it) wouldn't work without completely re-writing the engine. The engine is 2D, so you can't jump and you can't swim on more than one level of water at the same place (or can you? Though it'd probably be restricted to set levels like running over the canal to the Kitin Jungle in Silan). Even more, monsters won't target you while you're swimming (I don't know how hard this would be to change).

Though I suppose story could be written that the players have to attach waist and ankle weights, which would enable them to walk underwater, before going under only at specified points. I'm not really for it, though. I'd rather stay on dry land except for the occasional escape swim.

Or the marauders : ) (I see they restricted access to the marauder part of the neutral section to marauders finally so I can't check if that's what you are - I only seem to recall it.)

You're right - underwater play is just too hard to implement. I can't see it working at all without a rewrite and that's not going to happen.

A Waterworld Region (no land at all), though tempting, is almost as unworkable:

- would require boats to be manned
- nothing that can sink is retrievable
- you fall in, you swim, but a long time in the water (Atys weeks, months) is stretching credibility

There is a winter world, Father Atysmas lives there. Denizens of that world enter ours thru the magic pole outposts. Maybe you should start a letter writing campaign. Send letters to Father Atysmas and let us visit his/her world next Atysmas.

I just got a really weird image of a new race. Can't describe it very well though lol. New armor for this race could include like fur coats and stuff!! I actually really love the idea of another land. I mean the lakes are permanently summer basically and the deserts are just kinda never changing as well so why shouldn't there be a forever winter zone for all those snow lovers (not me)

I mostly love the idea of a zone where you take damage over time unless you stay near campfires or wear the proper equipment.

It'd really help make it feel like actually hostile land that isn't under homin control, something we're sorely lacking imo.

I'd always wished they'd done something like that for the desert, too, ofcourse that wouldn't be fair since desert is one race's starting land but they could always make a "deep desert" or something.

Anyways, "the artic" would work pretty well for this indeed. In the real world those are barren barely habited zones as well, and in a fantasy world they'd ofcourse be that much more deadly >:)

I like your idea - but I want to run on top of the skyroots first!
Only place we can do that is Twilight Rest in Darkmoor. But that very special place has recently been desecrated with silly crates and even a goo spot for the purpose of an otherwise undoubtedly useful but appalingly located mission. I'd be very happy if these were removed (even willing to start a riot over it all by myself if need be, as petitions to Lady Ailan seem to be of no avail).

We can have an Arctic region with Grizzly Vorax and polar Cuttlers and an earthquake-barren Volcanic region, and then Methane and Crystalline regions as well. A maze of twines in the Skyroot region to climb upon. For all we know, maybe the Marauding City will have its own new region, so let's see how this comes about.

Actualy realy nice idea! that will give alot new and good thing like new race whats mean new armors, weapons and possible recips think this is what ryzom need! and About Marouder thing why its cant be faction like kara and kamis? Couse right now its look same silly as neutral's!
