I'm totally against hiding equipped items. If you don't want to wear an item, don't wear it.
It's unrealistic, it's un-roleplay, it's un-pvp-play.
It would be ok, to hide your own equipped items for you and you alone (thus a client-side graphics switch). But it must never affect what other people see. They mus by default see what is there.
