Had an idea today to solve the problem for players looking for teams. That is create channels for the level range based upon a standard set of ranges. Any player could keep two active at any one time to encompass a range of skills and they can change channels easily enough when leveling outta one range. The standard channels would be created by:

/channel 0-50
/channel 50-100
/channel 100-150
/channel 150-200
/channel 200-225
/channel 225-250

When ya move up say outta the 100-150 range, you'd type:

/channel 100-150 * (to get outta the channel)
/channel 150-200 (to get into next range)

The thing I like about this option is that once made, the channels remain until a server reset and simply by logging in, the player tells everyone else in that range that they are on line.....no need to repeat over and over again, or to spam uni ..... no effort required .... ya log on and ya just told everyone you're a potential teamate. Ofcourse if ya busy .... easy enough to decline.

Hit charcter limit in last message ....

if promoted by GL's and HO's, i think this might have a shot at being successful.

I could help solve a lot of needless msgs in Uni. I like it. When a guildie is looking for some help, I can just ask if he has checked the LFT channels. Good idea.

This is a brilliant idea!

Only problem I can see is that healers would have to jump around in the channels, seeing as a lvl 50 healer easily can support a lvl 125 ele/melee, and a lvl 100 can keep a lvl 200 ele/melee.

Suppose you could just send out your services, ask to be answered in tells, and jump to the next channel if nothing comes up within a few minutes.

Could almost be available as standard channels, and which get switched on when you get into that range. Might be a bit much coding, so not really necessary, but it would allow people to keep an eye out for teams of all different levels that they have skills in. It could also be done so that all these channels are off by default, and can be accessed in the user tab. Name them /50 for 0-50, /100 for 51-100 etc.
Even a LFT channel could be nice, without lvl req. Would bring more room on /u for drama and other nonsense :D

I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are COLONIZED by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonized BY. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in, Marceline, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any ****** difference"

Oh well, you'll have to wait 4-5 years for the next one then......light doesn't go on often :)

Even something as minor as this, without the level distinctions, could be useful. The people who are trying to keep unnecessary chatter off of Uni might be more willing to post offerings and ask for any openings on such a channel like this.

Nice idea, be great for finding teams. one idea is have a LFT tab and just right click and select level channel, like you do in map for team member or missions. Should be fairly easy coding and make it easy fo newbies to use

Freddy by far one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. I love how simple a fix this is! It has been posted in our forums and I will continie to spread the word.

No need to vote.. This can be done by players.

Except... It would be subject to the same limitations that other user-created channels suffer. It takes up one of the three spaces used for user-created channels, as does the Faction channel, any Civ channel, and any other channels one may be a member of. People already hop between multiple channels now because of limitations. When the server reboots, the channel no longer exists; anyone who had joined the channel will no longer automatically sign in.

And perhaps the most significant limitation, people wouldn't know it exists except via word-of-mouth. I realize some people have a very big mouth and are good at spreading messages, but new people will still need to know about it. And then they'll need to know how to join and how to leave. If you need to have a discussion about joining and leaving custom channels every time a new player asks about a group on Uni, that is worse spam than the looking-for-group requests now.

Hence the suggested guild MOTD..... we had a channel going for months that we shared with a sister-guild. It was used for the same purpose ... to get players of similar sklill level together........basically a Guild Chat shared by two guilds + friends of.

Yeah we lost it at every server reboot, but it wasn't a significant effort to re-create. But like most things here ..... any player created stuff will only be what they players make of it.

Well I suggest that we create a general LFT/LFG channel where people could just either
-advertise their skills
-start a new team
-recruit missing members for their team
while we wait for devs to implement it.
If we all advertise it in guild MOTDs and ask the CSRs to pretty please announce it in Serverwide MOTD, I'm sure it could work.
Looking for a team or a member to complete your team ? Join the "Looking For Teammates" channel by typing /channel LFT in chat. (To leave the channel, simply type /channel LFT *.)

Then Uni and Faction chats wouldn't be as spammed for teams... though it would remove one more source of activity for faction chat, but that's only a minor bummer.
