Lethal Najabs have been spotted in Void today by a young digger who barely escaped the first encounter. They came out of the goo and attacked as one any homins foolish enough to engage them. They would lash even at homins that only approached them within 30 meters.

Help was however swift to come and Seriesh, Binarabi and Crafy helped bring the first specimens down. A first survey of Goo infested areas did not show any more cases of infected fauna.

After this event, I went to look around other Witherings regions that were known to border the Goo, mainly the Grove of Umbra, but I did not find any corrupted animals or Gibbai yet. This new case of Goo corruption does concern me, because while I'm not old enough to have witnessed earlier invasions of Goo-corrupted beings, I've heard some disconcerting stories of them.

However, I advise everyone to be on their guard and report any sightings of corrupted animals... Probably an obvious suggestion, but I want to make sure that everyhomin is aware and safe.

On a side note, these Najabs did not seem to be significantly stronger than other Najabs I have encountered, if at all - they did ALL come after us though, even from a large distance. I have no samples of the contaminated meat on myself, though.

(side OOC note: is the picture. It's to the northwest of the Karavan teleport in Void, that annoying little spot that Najabs sometimes set as their spawn point)

This would seem to match earlier accounts of Goo infestations. Creatures infected by the Goo do not immediately become stronger, but the immediate effects they do show are that they become immune to rot magic (have you tested this?) and that they no longer act natural but seem to be controlled by a sort of hive mind.

So they no longer attack only when provoked or to hunt, but act like invading armies that attack aggressively and in groups.

It's only after prolonged exposure that Goo-infected creatures mutate into bigger and more powerful forms.

The last Goo-infestation in Witherings didn't last long enough for mutations to occur, but the Goo-infestation in the Verdant Heights also started with just a few infected gibbaï, and only when they'd overrun the whole region did more powerful mutations start appearing, unseen in the far ends of the overrun region.

It should also be noted that both the last 2 Goo-infections were caused by the Marauders...

While I'm likely NOT the best test subject for this, I did attempt to use it, and they're definitely immune, just like the Stinga in Darkmoor. Take of it what you will (and of my attempts, since it's fair knowledge that my offensive magic is not the best around).

And I had forgotten that these attacks were caused by Marauders. It's entirely possible that they could be the reason for this as well, considering recent activity.

I'll attempt to take a look later around other regions again, but a quick swim-by of Darkmoor's outside area showed that none of the Yubos, Cloppers or Goari were infected yet either, but I'll continue to look there, since that's another Goo-ish area.

I've found another group of Goo-corrupted creatures, this time in Knot of Dementia, around 200 meters north of the Kami teleport. These "Pustulous Timari" are corrupted.. Well.. Timari, and exhibit similar qualities to the Najabs. I managed to take a couple of them out

I'd assume with what I've learned from other Homins (looking at you Marelli) and my own personal accounts now that this is a start of a new potential invasion.

Keep your eyes peeled guys, if this is going to continue then having everyone at the ready will be a great help. As I said before, I'll keep on the lookout for more (next up would be Grove of Umbra to check heavily)

I'll keep updating as more information is gathered. Knowing where these creatures are can help travellers and combatants alike.

We should gather materials (loot) for further research on this matter, has anyone aquired some?

#7 [en]

The Goo-corrupted Najabs have just left Void without a trace. Have the other creatures also returned to the Goo ?

#8 [en]

I didn't find any corrupted timari in Knot of Dementia, so they must've gone home. However I found corrupted najabs in Grove of Umbra, just north-east of Withered Stock Magic Pole.

There is also a field of corrupted Cratcha in Void, just north of the Kami altar. Be very careful in the area as they also aggressively attack as one any homin that comes too close, and all together they deliver quite a ranged barrage.

I've not yet checked the Goo-borders at southern Knot of Dementia or eastern Void. Someone should check Mull of Despond in particular as that's where the last Goo infestation of Witherings hit hardest.

#9 [en]

Yup, just starting to check there now. I've found a group of Fiendish Kipesta near Mull of Despond, but so close to all the other Kitin groups that I'm not going to have a chance of getting near enough to attempt to kill one. I'll continue checking, now that I have a chance.

Did the previous Goo infestations come in short waves like this, just out of curiosity?

(OOC)

So does this mean that the goo creatures coming won't be ones that the mission-givers ask you to kill for missions? For me, that was part of the anticipation, as well as being less confusing to the new person looking for these creatures to kill.

(OOC)

If you ask me, this is only the start of the event. They literally just started popping up yesterday, so I assume that the new Goo creature missions may come into play later, after a major Goo event.

I was out for my daily ride and ran across some Revolting Slaveni in Knot of Dementia. Just south of Desertstock.

#13 [en]

Went to check out the Revolting Slaveni Stitch wrote about and they all attacked me at once. I must have been less than 20M from them. I managed to kill and obtain a sample of Superb Goo Contaminated Meat Q186.

Same as all the other ones, then. Hold on to the samples for now, since they may be asked for later on.

#15 [en]

I'm not sure if anyone has reported it, but going further north along the Goo line from Grove of Umbra's Karavan teleporter, I've found a group of Psykopla and a group of Kiban which were corrupted. Also, how do plants drop meat? Really.
