This would be a service to move apartment inventory items.

Steps and features:
  • Upon purchasing a new apartment, instead of being given a refusal (you can only have one apartment), show the option to purchase and move to the new apartment in the location chosen.
  • If there are items in the old apartment, NPC should offer a moving service for a fee.
  • Fee should be set according to distance.
  • Moving time should be according to distance and number of items to be moved and their bulk.
  • Moving company workers should be seen carrying crates for the homin who ordered the move (NPC would be part of, e.g. New Trykoth Moving Co., and say "Carrying Hekla's stuff, make way please!").
  • Hired workers should move at normal homin walking speed.
  • Inventory, both from the old and the new apartment, would be inacessible during the time of the move.
  • Hired homins would move a small amount of items at a time (either limited by bulk or slots, much smaller than a regular homin bag).

This would be enough for starters. Originally, I thought of this service only in the scope of a single city, to move from one building to another, to add a specific, visible homin activity within the cities. This may be the easiest possible feature to implement at first, since there are no fame issues and no multiple-land scripting involved.

Moving large amounts of items is of course possible today, and definitely a lot of fun to organize with Mektoub protection being an added factor to the trek. This should not be seen as a replacement for that tedious but fun collective effort, but merely an occasional Dapper sink and a way for everymin to see that NPCs don't just walk around, but do useful things occasionally.

One could envision additional features, but which would require further thinking and significant developer work. Those would be, for example:

Speeding up the move
  • Ability to hire more homins hired to make the move (for extra Dapper cost), to speed up the moving process.

Attacks on moving service
  • Ability for moving caravans across lands to be attacked by mobs and possibly lose cargo.
  • Ability for very large moving caravans (enough NPCs hired to move all in a single trip) to move as a single group. If such a caravan is made to be attackable by mobs, protection from homins would be needed (guild or friend event).
  • Ability to hire protection for the moving service.

Guild variation
  • As above, ability to move an entire guild inventory to a different location. Such caravans would be extremely expensive, and would be attackable both by mobs and homins of opposed factions. The moving guild would need to protect it from its enemies (guild event).
  • In case of attack, part of the items being moved may be lost, but not looted or stolen by homins.
  • It would make sense that wandering tribes would either defend or attack the moving service depending on the fame of the guild leader who hired the moving service to move the guild inventory.

This is really a great idea.

Is it possible to hire other homins to do the job. For those with the entrepreneur bend. This could be a good way to make a few dappers.

I can see it now.
