ROLEPLAY

This is just a simple question and i would like your opinions on it. Should we all play Ryzom in Roleplay style daily, like 24 hours, everytime you log on? Not just on certain events or matters as such but all the time. Give me the reason for why you think we should or why not. Would it be more entertaining or less fun.

No, the game isn't made for it, at a certain point game mechanics limitations are going to force you to do something that makes no sense from a roleplaying perspective.

Not everyone roleplays, but most ryzom players will interact in RP. There used to be a few known roleplayers in game that lived and breathed ryzom in character 24/7. And I can't think of anyone who at one point or another didn't interact with them in roleplay. If you choose to RP it would be welcomed, but it is never required to enjoy the game. It comes down to personal preference.

I think if we interacted in RP it would be more entertaining. I mean in some cases you could actually make your own storyline, corresponding to the one that the game has already provided. For example...what the matis prince did to one of the fyros cities. We could take that a run with it. This is an suggestion i believe we should treat the opposing faction as aggro. If wandering around the cities or lands, and you just so happen to stumble upon a kami/karavan...there should be a pvp battle...or a short roleplaying sequence. Having meetings that go along with RP. What the matis prince did was only an example but i believe we can make this game more entertaining just from our own creative minds. The game gives us plenty of paths to take with what we have...I'm just very productive and like to see change in something to make better and interesting.

RP'ing is pretty fun and if somebody askes me something in character, i'll answer him back in character (or atleast try, sometimes it's a bit hard just because i'don't know everything in english). At the stables I also try some light RP but that aswell is just for fun and tends to change in OCC sometimes.
The forcing ppl to tag so if they meet somewhere they have to fight each other isn't what I would understand under RP'ing, A tagged battle can be fun from time to time but if the game became faction based pvp everywhere it would seriously drive some ppl away (mostly the RP ones) and  would make it even harder to team up if 50% of popultation is your enemy.

I see, well everyone has a choice, you dont have to RP if you don't want. But i'm going to start RPing myself and put my character's personality in game more than my own. I know many are not really good at RPing but those that are i believe should do so more often, makes game more intriguing. Now that you mention it the pvp will be quite diificult to deliver, but you also have the right to turn down the pvp battle as well. I mean if a kara came across a kami it doesnt necessarily have to be a pvp battle. Just a quick sequence in words based or that we are as the game implies....enemies to one another.

I like the idea Rahael. Perhaps some sort of community journaling thread where characters blog about their recent activities. This would allow those who RP a nice spot to leave their character's story and can let the community see the development of characters over time. I think that this is what the RP thread is really all about in the first place, just people don't use it as such. When the the tower buildling event happened, I used the RP forums (old forums) for much of my RP interaction with other players and events people.

As far as RP is concerned, I don't see where it would be required to be 24/7, each person should be comfortable with their level of immersion and apply RP courtesy to others. I do agree that it would add a deeper layer to the community of Ryzom if more characters were running around Atys living in the world instead of just players playing an online game.

RP blogs on the roleplaying forums would be excellent.

What I always loved to read the most myself was little RP stories about how individual characters experience the world events. Going to the event or reading a summary of it we really only see the mass happening, but it's always interesting to explore the 'human angle'; what effect such an event has on a single person.

But just character's stories are fun too.

So how do you create a new thread. I would like to call it "Active Role play" those that roleplay often will post there

Hmm yep something to display roleplay stories would be great I myself would probably never write one since i just do 'light' rp but i love to read them.
Maybe a dedicated forum for just that kind of stories or even maybe a webapp where we can sign up to ppl's stories, ....

Some other idea's give roleplayers an extra title where they can show everyone they are in rp mode, others using the title with out roleplaying would probably be shunned by the community fast. Or maybe some kind of '*' or '(RP)' in fornt of the name that they can turn on like pary/dodge or just something they choose where they choose the titles.
Maybe a chat command you can use for roleplaying like '/r' is just region chat '/rr' is region chat but with an '*' infront of it showing you are rp'ing, same would work for '/gr', '/ar', ...

It's just some idea's to make it easyer to see if ppl are roleplaying or not.

I think if we come up with a creative RP style title for a new thread in this forum with the intentions stated in the first post with "guidelines" on it that would be sufficient Rahael. Otherwise you would need to get the admins involved, plus it really belongs in the Roleplay forum. Some things to consider before making: Is it desired to be only journaling or will it be a place for ongoing dialog? Are comments wanted? Should there be a limit to character postings per day (i.e. one RL daily post or multiple posts throughout the day)?

I had thought about a website/blogsite for something like this, but personally I am tired of having all these other places to go (Ryzom website, Guild website, Faction website, etc.) to check on one thing or another. For me, consolidation in one spot is preferred. If it was taken to another source, I would forgo it. This is only my personal opinion on the matter.

Off topic responses:

As far as title system, we have that already. If a symbol is put on my head or some other IC indication, well that defeats the purpose, imo. I will show the proper title fitting for the RP situation I am in. For example: If I am at the Taliari Assembly I wear my Tryker Citizen title so that others around me know that I am a concerned citizen. If I am protesting the Kami's lack of tolerance to my gathering of resources, I would wear my Karavan Follower title. By marking me as a RP in a RPG, well, that ruins the concept, no?

If someone cannot tell that someone else is RPing within a few dialog exchanges, then something is wrong in either their RP or the receiver's perception and in either case each would carry on in their own way pretty quickly. If one is concerned or wants to make sure, private messages can always clear the matter up.

When I made a character I made one similar to myself. So for me the game is RP but it is also me.

I was injured in combat, Sniper U. S. Army) and can no longer what I used to do so RP here gives me an outlet and helps with my sanity.

Roleplay can be a hindrance to fun if you make it too austere. 100% roleplay all around means you only have interactions as homin beings. While this is great to foster a true immersive experience, many players want to have human social interactions and that's what they want out of a guild.

Roleplaying in around chat is a must though. It helps keep an immersive environment for all homins. Likewise for collective, out-of-guild chats (Faction channels), since to be factioned is to adopt a roleplay stance. But it hasn't been the custom to use roleplay in Faction chats.

In my opinion, this shouldn't be required in around chat. I can see it being a custom or lightly enforced rule in faction. In a server/game where some RP and some don't, I think the best thing to do for around would be for either the RPers to ignore those talking OOC in /s or politely ask them to stop (yes, I realise it would have to be OOC) if they're being distruptive, especially if the RPers out number the OOCs.
