Why is my character dropping my sword when I am battling? Im just starting out and when I'm by the ruins attacking a creature, suddenly I hear a sound like magic casting and them I'm bare handed. By the time I re-select a weapon, i'm dead. Is there something I'm missing?

That's definitely a Javing trick. They are the only mob I know that are able to disarm... and they happen to fly around the ruins.
