Sorry, but what kind of "date of post" is "5 months ago"?

Sometimes one needs to know on exactly which day a forum-entry has been made.

Like for knowing and referring to the day someone has been playing/writing actively for the last time, the day someone mentioned starting or stopping playing Ryzom, for writing RP-chronicles (to calculate the exact Atys-day from that date) or to find out about the date player-events have started / ended in the past (that may have only been announced in this forum).

The data of date and time of posting is clearly recorded for this forum. But is it really necessary to change it to such a very vague and sadly useless appraisal over time? Has this any pros/benefits compared to the drawbacks it has?

What the heck is Facebook?
Detailed dates are cool by nature. :P

I must agree, this is no Failbook. I never understood the point of "15 minutes ago" as if by looking at the date and time I couldn't figure it out by myself. Playing Ryzom is supposed to require some minimal amount of intelligence. This is almost an insult to that minimal amount. :P

That said, given the numerous timezones different people are residing in, saying that something was posted "10 minutes ago" makes sense, unless you expect the server to convert the timestamp of each post to the timezone of the reader.

#6

Most forums do, actually. You set your timezone and everything is converted automatically.

I agree.
There should be an option, allowing the user to switch between "the old way" and a normal YYYY-mm-dd HH:MM format calculated in/to the appropriate timezone.

While being just a few minutes, hours or days ago, let's say 7 at least, it has some comfort to easily see how long it's been ago, but the original timestamp shouldn't be omitted.

Moreover, a redesign of a post's headline might make sense.
Nearly nobody makes use of the feature to change the "subject", so one could change the headline design as follows:

#[post number] | [player name] - [YYYY-mm-dd hh:mm:ss] [([time] ago)] [Edit] Quote

there is time option under options

imho relative time is shorter and more verbose for casual viewer.

Hello!

Ah, thank you very much, now this is a LOT better! :) Sorry for having overlooked this option. Or has it been implemented just recently?

On the other hand a day-counter like "147 days ago" instead of "5 months ago" would also be nice... Not that I'm trying to find something to complain forcibly :D

these new options werent available "10 hours ago" :)

In this case: thank you very much, dear forum-gods (and goddesses of course as well)!
