I recently stumbled across this http://steamcharts.com/app/373720 and just think about these numbers: Avg. Players Last 30 Days 13.8

Yes, that's almost 14 players using ryzom via steam. I honestly thought it would be more...

What do you think?

That people prefer to play with the non-steam client ?

#3 Report | Quote[en]

I don;t like the steam client
It had problems so I just used native
if the problems are fixed, im still not changing over
also payment is weird on steam, or at least it was

edit your post maybe, to ask how many of us are using steam versus not-steam?

Hi Arc!

I'm not sure the average players is best measure- maybe the mode is better? almost every time I check Steam stats there are 15-30 currently logged in accounts, so i'm not sure if the average is weighing the population down because of less populated times of day...

@Loved we don't have exact numbers for non-steam clients. I did a poll and it found about 20% steam and 80% non-steam, even though it had some limitations, the ratio of 1 steam to 4 non-steam was pretty consistent.

I switched back to normal client in the week before Christmas because I had trouble with Steam.

I don't think it's that bad, it's always 13 Players playing Ryzom at the same time (24/7), depending on time of day and day of week, so on last Sunday there were about 35 players I see from the graph.

Addition: What we also see there is how important holidays and events are, there were higher player numbers around Anlor Win and around the Atysmas events/Christmas holidays.
I feel those player waves also at my resale activity, guessed from my current sales rates we still have more active players than before christmas.

I googled a bit and found some more useful data :D

http://steamspy.com/app/373720

(I created a free account there, then it shows everything.)

I look at https://steamdb.info/app/373720/graphs/

One way to get an estimate of subscribers and certain indication of trends, is by looking at the billing page and your tyransaction numbers.  If you look at your transaction number for say February , 2015 and it's 10,916 and January before was 10,000, then it's fair to say that 916 transactions took place over th elast moth.

This is inaccurate on the - side as 3 month and 1 year subs would be under reported and it's inaccurate on the + side as for example, the two billing bli[ps that accured on the following when my sub was canceleld and restarted twice within a month when Ryzom forgot to ask the CC company for the money.

Anyway here's the number of ytransacions from January 2015 to January 2017; note that the two 36's are when sub was cancelled / restarted twicew within 24 hours.

So, if the ballpark range is 1k subscribers / month, then Ryzom is .. yup, pretty much family business. Nowhere near bigger titles.

However, if the ratio of Steam vs. non-Steam players is heavily toward the latter .. I would ask some questions. Why do people not come via Steam? Did the game dig itself into a(nother) hole, due to the bad reviews? Does that mean Steam isn't the Lord and Savior of Ryzom? etc etc :)

I don't come in thru Steam because I don't like their intrusive business model.  It's easier (for me) to download it direct.

(Yes, I did test steam, using my Linux computer.  Don't like it.)

Same here Bittty. And while I can appreicate that now they now have a "share" policy, I'm still PO'd about going from a "Buy 6 games @ XMas, and that means 3 kids get to play 6 Games" model to "Buy 6 games and each kid got to play 2 unless they playerd under each other's accounts.".

In addition, when Steam went live can't even guess at the number of folks who wound up switching to Kervala betas to get rid of problems.

Valve is discontinuing Steam Greenlight, apparently they were not happy with the quantity and quality of games added through that process. They are switching to a different service called Steam Direct or something:

If the game is open source like Ryzom I compile it.
