To the tribes of the Buring Desert

It is well known that you are suffering from a terrible drought and that the situation is getting more dire every day. The Matis Kingdom wishes to do what we can to extend a helping hand and prevent further suffering.

The Fyros turned down our offer of assistance, and we've accepted that until now. However with the situation only worsening and the Fyros government apparently in disarray, the stability of our borders is now being threatened. We've thus decided to make an offer directly to you, the tribes, that we hope will stop the rising tensions on our border.

We cannot organise relief caravans loaded with water as well as our Tryker friends can. However, we do have lands close to the Burning Desert, and on those lands not far across the border is an abundant source of water: Virginia Falls. As far as we know, it is still largely unaffected by the drought. While the Lakelands are much too far for most of you to travel to, this would only be a short trip from Thesos.

The Matis Kingdom thus hereby officially invites all tribes of the Burning Desert in need of water to move their populations across the border into Matis lands and camp at Virginia Falls during the drought.

We make this offer in good faith, and expect you to adhere to these conditions:
1. To not travel further south than Berello Gorge Border Post.
2. To be respectful towards the tribes already camping at Virginia Falls.
3. To not attack innocent travellers while camping there.
4. To only use as much water as you need to survive.
5. To return home as soon as the drought ends, or if we (the Matis Nobles) decide you've outlasted your welcome.

Should the drought still last on after a full Year of Jena, we'll have to re-evaluate the situation to find a more long-term solution. Until then you are welcome in Matis lands as long as you adhere to those rules.

Camping outside the Fyros cities only hurts innocent travellers. Come camp at Virginia Falls instead!

Scouting Report, Nivia 7 AC 3 JY 2551

So far three of the desert tribes seem to have accepted our offer and moved to Hidden Source. The Dune Riders are camping at Virginia Falls Diplomatic Outpost, the Scorchers are camping at Virginia Falls Magic Pole, and the Lawless are camping west of Virginia Falls. All tribes seem to be adhering to the conditions set forth in the invitation.

These are all tribes that were previously camping at Thesos. Thesos is now clear of tribal blockade, and Hidden Source is actually a safer place with their presence for now. Travel and trade to the Burning Desert should be able to proceed unhindered again.

I decided to tag along with the tribes as they settled around Virginia Falls in Hidden Source, to have a glimpse of what it was like to be one of those refugees in foreign lands. I used the latest Zoraï technology in amber cube imaging to record this event.

Lawless tribesmen travel across the vast expanses of Hidden Source in the dead of winter to carve a new home for themselves.

Hidden Source is a dangerous place, full of fell beasts that constantly threaten the tribes. Yet that seems to be better than facing the drought.

The Scorchers have settled in an abandonned outpost.

Here we see some Dune Riders skinny dipping in the ice cold water of Virginia Falls in the middle of winter. No, seriously. They are. You just can't see them in this image because they were underwater in the moment I recorded it. Really, I swear.

But ahem, anyway. Of course that seeing the tribes find a new home for themselves away from the terrible drought fills my heart with joy and all that.

I mean, in one fell swoop the Nobles were able to give water to the thirsty tribes and clear Thesos of all hostilities as well. Bravo! I commend the Nobles for their kindness and compassion... or is it?

Am I the only one who still remembers that suspicious letter found in Hidden Source? The one that seemed to imply that the Nobles were plotting to use the drought to their advantage by swaying the tribes to their side and imposing their cultural influence over the Burning Desert?

I mean, _all_ of the three tribes that migrated to Hidden Source are sworn enemies of the Fyros Empire. A coincidence, perhaps?

Any Noble out there who would care to comment on this?

All the tribes were invited to come to Virginia Falls it is just a coincidence that the ones that have come so far are sworn enemies of the fyros, as you put it.

When we were discussing this we all felt that the homins should be able to go around without being attacked by tribes especially the low level players.

Final Report, Summer of AC 1 JY 2552

The unrest in the desert has come to an end. Peace and order have been restored and the Fyros government is again in control. It it thus time for a final evaluation.

The desert tribes that had accepted our invitation have returned home. Their stay in Hidden Source lasted no longer than a cycle, and they honoured our conditions during their stay, so the impact on the region was minimal.

The tribes benefited greatly from our invitation and the refuge from the turmoil in the desert. Their stay similarly benefited the people of Thesos, who were spared any further unrest. The regions of the desert bordering the Matis Kingdom remained quiet while the rest of the desert underwent great turmoil.

It is thus concluded that the decision taken was of benefit to the Matis Kingdom, securing peace along our border and likely increasing goodwill towards us amongst the involved tribes and the people of Thesos, while not causing the Kingdom any remarkable distress.
