would you like to be able to jump off the docks into the water in the Lakes regions?
Yes! This sounds great!

I think it would be nice to be able to jump off the docks into the water in FH.

It would save so much time instead of swimming around the city to get somewhere. This way, you can go through the city and shave off a lot of time :)

Note: If you vote 'Other' please mention your alternate idea :)

I tend to wander around drunk alot, and falling into the water could cause issues for me. It might be ok if I can get back up from the water to the docks again, or if the guards will come fish me out if I stay still long enough.

I have wanted this for some time, but I suspect that it cannot be accomplished without a lot of programming.

Most specifically, it is possible that it may be easy to turn off the invisible barrier, but getting up out of the water may be very difficult to manage with the current client and server.

I knew that thought would come up, so I was thinking of being able to jump or step off the docks, but to get back on them from the water would be prohibited. Perhaps because it would be too hard or too high or something, no ladder, etc. (and yes, i figure it will take a lot of specialised programming, but if I put the idea out there, maybe a coder can tell us how hard it would be?) Some of this is i am wondering the feasability of it as well as if anyone would support it.

I favor a bridge from Hartley Point to the shore. That would sidestep the technical problems of falling/jumping/climbing in a 2.5D game while still greatly reducing the hassles of swimming halfway around the city. Given that many people avoid/hate Aeden Aqueous for the swimming, I think shortening the travel time to Friends of Fury by several minutes would be very welcome.

OK I like this idea because it seems natural that it should be possible. However, it should only be possible to go into the water from the end of a walkway, not from the sides, and there should be ladders to get back up.
Alternatively, there would be a barrier, perhaps a pile of crates or barrels to stop homins even considering jumping into the water.

I have always had an idea similar to Gidget's- that FH should have a bridge connecting it to to one of the western beaches.

Being able to exit (and likely enter?) the city from any dock would present huge security problems in an already poorly defended city...

But even a combination of the two, sort of like a boat ramp, only at one or two locations could improve travel times and access to and from the city.

That's partly why I suggested Hartley Point. Being directly opposite the stables makes it a great spot if you want only one added entry/egress point to the city. A ramp into the water from Windy Head might be better for those who are going to/through Greenvale or Resting Water, but water carriers and those seeking to train South of FH would be better served by doing it at Loria's Rise. Hartley Point is a good compromise as it's right between those two. If they decide to do a bridge instead, Hartley Point is closest to land so the bridge will be cheaper and quicker to build too.

@Arfur - I think that the 2.5D engine and how it handles sudden elevation changes restricts us to ramps, bridges, and teleporters. If we added half a dimension to be fully 3D then I would agree, but as it stands your concerns are a moot point due to technical limitations.

I'd be more in favour of the slipway/ramp into the water idea than the jump idea; purely because I don't think it would take as long to implement.

I'm not against the jump idea per se, it's just that implementation of jumping would be a major development and there are other things the small dev should work on first.

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

I'll try to mention this at next Fairhaven Assembly as part of possible city improvements. A bridge at Hartley Point, a water entry ramp at Windy Head (a bridge there would actually block the waterway unless it were raised), and enough guards to protect those areas.

I voted yes. But only to jump into the water, So no climbing up the dock again...
