I started from a shell in an xterm window (as always) where $DISPLAY indeed is :0.0 , so far it never hindered ryzom from coming up (please don't tell me I need Wayland :))

What puzzles me, is LocalAddress: :0 (0.0.0.0) in the log. ifconfig tells /sbin/ifconfig -a

Edit: As I shall be off from home in a few hours, I cannot go on testing until next Friday. If somebody else has similar issues with the actual Ryzom client, pls. respond here. It is, btw. the first time I had troubles with a Ryzom client on Linux.

Your problem is really strange :(

XOpenDisplay should always work if you used the right client :(

Please what client did you launch (32 or 64 bits) ?

You should try with a new version from :

http://ryzom.kervala.net/clients/

Like ryzom_client_static_linux64_2.1.0.6505.zip (14.157986 MB - 2015-12-03 17:51:49)

Now 32 and 64 bits Linux clients have their own ZIP file :)

Finally, with what previous client did you play ?

If the old client was working, the new old should too :)

Thanks for the response. I launched the 64bit client. The client I use is that one once downloaded from sourceforge (32bit client), still working like a charm (once the 32bit libs are in place, and except the notorious segfault when attempting to use character selection window, or the ring in old times). Is there a way to show the version?

The old client has version 2.1.0 and I think it has been compiled in 2012.

Please did you launch new static client with the same user you started X ?

It could fail if your client is launched as root for example.

Your "XOpenDisplay failed on ':0.0'" should be related to your XWindow not to Ryzom... or perhaps that's because we called XInitThreads() recently to fix a crash, it seems to be a standard X function implemented a long time ago.

Daomei, Just a shot in the dark here, is mesa or the drivers for Nvidia/ATI installed for 64bit, the openGL part of them. Had a simmular issue on a Debian install, turned out the NVidia drivers needed reinstalled.

I'll remove the XInitThreads call and I hope it was related to that.

Revision 2005 from Glorf is very old too (from 2012), could you try one of his more recent versions ?

It'll be very long to check all revisions from 2005 to 6505 :p

I continued testing and found that all 64bit static clients in manda.glorf.fr/archives except ryzom_client_static_64bits_6153 and ryzom_client_static_64bits_6234 are working.

One thing was confusing: When playing the game using ryzom_client_static_64bits_5850, all macros were gone. When restarting with my old client they were back.

Thanks, Bittty, I think that answers the macro problem, most probably a copying or linking mistake of mine. I shall check that next Friday when back home. I assume that the Glorf clients are ok and it was my fault.

Still, the strange crash of all newer 64 bit clients remains. I shall do more testing when back home, even more from Dec 18 on when I am in holidays for a few weeks.

What you might try is to run 'xhost +' on terminal and on same terminal try ryzom_client
