IDEAS FOR RYZOM

#1 [en]

Idea:

- Create a new subforum of the "General" forum, titled "Multilingual"
or
- Allow everyone to make posts directly in the "General" forum (Instead of only under one of the specific language forums.)

Reason:

It would be nice to have a central location for new player guides and the like. The English and German forums have separate collections of guides right now. The other areas of the forum are already multi-lingual, and I think we could make good use of a multi-lingual general forum, too. Of course being able to talk in our native languages is great. Sometimes I want it to be clear the topic is meant to be open to speakers of all languages.

Note: I'm a new-ish player. This idea might be silly because I don't understand how the forums work.

#2 Multilingual

Multilingual | [English] | Français | Deutsch | Español
There is nothing preventing the posting of multilingual posts in any of the three language Forums, and in fact multilingual posts are common in the Roleplay, Support, and Event Forums.

However, I agree and support the idea of a specific Multilingual General Forum to encourage multilingual communication.

Not much point making a multi-language post on a section for specific language. I don't follow the sections for a language I don't speak/read.

OK so it's not perfect but your browser can translate - why miss any of the players discussions just because they're in another language?

I actually don't understand why general forums are still divided by language now that there is the ability to post in multi language format and to translate in web browser.

So I would support the second suggestion, new general posts all go into one general forum.

I second the proposal. When I have a look at the usage, I see 102 topics in German since the merge, 195 in French, 465 ca. in English, 24 in Russian, and 113 in Spanish (minor aberrations possible). To my impression, the usage of non english General forums is decreasing.

It seems that General [English] is the General for all, while the other are language forums are used more or less seldom. And often, general discussions are rather started in roleplay, or ideas forum.

I would advocate to retain the old "language General" forums, but to rename them to "Language communities" or so, possibly even creating an italian one in addition, then start a multilingual General.

In the Language communities topics of relevance for that community should be discussed, and general topics in General. Today, the English speakers lack a General of their own.
