I am not new to Ryzom, but I want to know the reason for this occurance.

Suppose a player named X sells a 1-h sword, for example, and another player, Y sells, in my observation, the same exact 1-h sword. {same quality, build, damage, HP-boost, and everything I can see} However, the price on X's sword costs, for example, 1,000,000,000 dappers, and the price on Y's sword costs, for example, 1/10 dapper.

What is up with that.

(OK I have exaggerated the prices, but the question seems to be valid to me)

I don't have anything interesting to say anything here

Every item has a base price and a player can set how much it will resell for (1-9999% of the base price).

because the player sets the percentage of price increase

I predict your dappers will reduce by 1/10th of a dapper!

Buy the cheaper one. People don't always know the market values when they put things on the merchant. Also, you can price your goods super high, to prevent people from buying them, as a way of temporarily storing your goods at the merchant. On the off chance someone does buy, you just made a bundle ;)

Damn... That's right!

I guess I forgot that!

Also, apparently player X has priced it so high because newer players don't have a clue about that fact.

Thank you, all, on thius question.

Also, don't forget:

Two identical items sold with the same percentage of profit will have different prices if their sellers have local fame that's different.

As a a seller, the higher your local fame is, the better your starting price is (on top of which percentage is applied).

Don't store anything on traders you are not prepared to lose, i.e., many PR xls will sell quick :P

when i sell mats the price is based on % needed to make a basic Q250 mat 500ish dappers per mat. when i sell an item (rarely) i figure out a fair price based on what i would be willing to pay for said item. when i store something, you'd have to be insane to buy it. there's only so much bulk / slot's in an apartment or guild hall (still waiting on those upgrades). so there's the merchants 128 slot's of bulk free storage with a tiny restriction, you have to remember to retrieve it every 5 or 6 days and place it back on the merchants, or they keep it and you loose out.

someone buy's your storage stuff, you get rich. (personally i'd rather you didn't, what good are grind mat's? surely it's cheeper to pay someone to dig them for you then buy mine, lolx)

but mostly i'm repeating what everyone else said.

Market price is a slippery concept at the best of times, and has only a passing acquaintance with true value. It is true that many players - myself included - have no idea of the right price to charge. I gave up trying to figure it out, having realised that I was not selling stuff to get rich. I don't care if I get a good price for the gear or mats I sell, as long as it sells and makes somebody happy.

It's bad luck to be superstitious . . .

I'm not aware of any instances where people are intentionally trying to price gouge new players, even if occasionally players buy and mark-up others' goods, it still is either very little difference because those items have a low base value, or the item is just not going to be bought anyway...

I was keeping track of the market value of things like magic amps based on the Blackmarket auction and bazaar prices. But both of those sell higher than +9999% which is the standard maximum in the merchant (although higher % can be done...).

This idea of "I'm offended". Well I've got news for you. I'm offended by a lot of things too. Where do I send my list? Life is offensive. You know what I mean? Just get in touch with your outer adult. (Bill Hicks)

Yeah, they really frown on adding that fifth 9, don't they?

Do not assume that you speak for all just because you are the loudest voice; there are many who disagree that simply have no desire to waste words on you.

Exactly like that.
I love crafting, I want to get rid of the nice things I craft and make someone happy, instead of ripping dappers out of (little) homins purses. ;)

You missed an 'e' there.  Can't be ripping off homines, unless they are Matis.  But with homins, glue feathers and sparkles on - tell the farting ape that it is boosted maga and by the time they fall off (preferably whilst he trying to nuke Gerder) and he realises he has bought a lemon you are long gone.  Of course, staying around, at a safe distance, to hear his screams is also satisfying :)
