... instead of showing them as glaring red dots. It would make ambushing people and hiding behind scenery much more interesting.

This should work at the very least in tagged pvp and forced pvp regions.

Hmmm... Make ganking easier. I doubt that this will be approved.

ummm, bittty.... NOT seeing a red dot on the radar would make ganking HARDER. (if by ganking you mean running up on them and killing them.)

if you mean ganking in another form please explain so i might understand.

That was what I was talking about. Maybe a bit harder to find a target, but they will be at moderately well known spots. Much harder to see an attacker coming up and get ready to leave/dodge/fight.

I like the idea, but if it's implemented to client side it would provide a benefit to players using modded clients that show all players. To do it the right way it should be implemented to server side, so that the information about player B is sent to player A's client only when A is able to see player B. This would probably be too huge project for current devs.

Lol it's ryzom they would probably hack it in.
On some clients they would not see any dots anymore not even mobs and friends, and meanwhile on other clients the sometimes hard to see red dots would be big sparkly stars with the name of the tagged person on it if you hover over it.

One of the existing problems is that the client shows everyone as a blue dot in the distance, e.g. if you have the compass zoomed to 250m. Only once they're close to you they become a red / purple dot. So one would still be able to sort of "see" people from a distance, while they're still "blue" (client didn't check faction yet?) - if they then disappear, it's clear they're a hostile entity.

Far be it from me to call into question the sanity of a homin as well respected as Ser Mjollren BUT this is a bonkers idea.

You say if the blue dot disappears then it shows hostile intent?  Maybe they just TP'd.  Maybe they're hiding under an orange dot.  And this supposes that we always have the compass zoomed out to 250m AND have nothing better to do than follow the progress of any blue dot that appears on the compass.

Also, suppose players tagged for PvP are trying to find one another?  This would make it impossible.  They would be left wandering the place waiting for a blue dot to disappear !!!

The only thing this achieves is making it possible to hide and ambush other homins who are NOT PvP tagged.  ie players who do NOT want to fight.  Making Ganking easier.

You can do a /who and see if the person actually did teleport away. Personally I have a macro for this command, and for far less nefarious purposes (seeing who can rez if I die scouting, simply to see where folks are hanging around, etc).

If you see a blue dot dissapearing but the list of people isn't changing, you now must be wary. Ok, I shall reword: such an approaching entity is only *potentially* hostile.

Players trying to find each other can use literally any of the communication channels available, and establish a well known meeting point. That's hardly a concern, especially since you can still *see* each other.

If however you're attempting to gank someone, you must actually find them first. This increases both the difficulty and the reward of having a pvp flag, both for ganker and gankee. For once, it removes the stupidly easy option of popping invulnerability as soon as you see a red dot speeding up towards you.

You obviously can't attack someone who isn't pvp tagged, I'm not sure what were you trying to say there :)

(Also: This side-topic is mostly predicated on the idea that the client behaviour is deliberately lazy. Showing blue dots in 250m for everyone could be an oversight, a bug.)

not 100% sure but i believe my client show's me red dot's even way off (radar set to 250)

when big talk is subbed again i'll visit a forced pvp zone with a friend from another faction to double check and be sure.
