IDEAS FOR RYZOM

I think it would be a good thing if the Forum software could enable submitting a translation for the multilingual posts of other people. Maybe requiring the original author to accept it before it is visible to all. This would make it easier for those already doing translations and the authors for whom they are doing it. Plus it could encourage others to translate something in the first place.

I support the idea

When there is no translation i just open forums in browser, which will translate the whole page, letting others translate post could get messy

For myself, I would be GLAD to be able to offer Copal or some other people like Daomei or Krill the possibility of doing a better job on my posts than Goo-trad.

I support the idea with the addition that the Original Poster can veto the translation.

I think i'd be able to translate from german to english, and from english to german. This idea would bring great benefits for all (new) players and a deeper understanding for many roll play stories too.

The Google translation is more than terrible. I think this kind of work (translating posts) could be done easily by the community.

A great, innovative idea.

I am finding that many are not making their posts translatable and it is irritating me when a post is half english (all i know), and half another language and you can't understand what they are posting. So I propose an 'Auto-Translate' feature of all posts if the poster does not offer his post to be translated. At least we may get an 'Idea' of what he was talking about. If they want someone to do a better job translating, then i support it 100%. But it seems many don't care to even do a basic translation for the other players who don't understand, like me :(
Also, i once found a feature in the forums to automatically translate everything into English for me, but I lost where it was. Maybe someone can help me.
~Thanks :)

The solution to that is to make sure that you adjust the language in the dropdown at the lower right of the composition screen to be your own native language (or the language in which you are writing the message if you are not in your native language).

In this case, the original poster posted in English and German and the pulldown is default to Deutsch. I will change it to English so that everyone who is FR, DE, ES, RU can at least use (ugh) Goo-trad.

If you forget to do it, you can always go back and edit your post to change the posting language.

(Naema, I think yours is still in the default mode, since it asks me if I want to translate it.)

GAH! See, that is part of the problem too i guess, posters forget to post in multi-lingual mode. I think i just adjusted it, but im not sure, What im proposing is to just make it automatic for all posts if that is possible.

#11 [en]

I agree with your idea that it should be made automatic, but how? Some people who are FR or DE speaking (i.e. have that language set) post in English (as you just did).

The manual solution (which you didn't do for the immediately previous post) allows you to select the language you actually posted in, regardless of your native tongue setting. (The language that is set for the post is displayed as a flag in the upper right just above the post itself.)

The use of multilingual posting option (select in the upper left corner of the composition window; see it in the upper right as the multi-flag panel) expects YOU to do all the translating and to set off the individual translated portions with the bracketed EN DE FR etc. flags. This is not the same functionality. It is in many ways better because it means that the translations were done with more care than Goo-trad uses.

It's confusing.

Thanks Bittty, yes, it is confusing.

I suppose I am asking for an automatic translation into the language each player designates as his main language if that is possible. Using the mechanical translator (triad?) would at least give us a chance to understand it. it would be nice if an option is allowed for the poster to let others re-translate it into a more accurate translation too, which I know is there now, but it would be nice in addition to the auto-translate idea. This is posted under 'Ideas for Ryzom,' so I hope they can figure out a way to do it.

I'm not sure how it would be implemented, but it would be better than nothing.

See, I'm not even sure how to let my posts be translated into various languages, I'm not that savvy and I'm sure many in Ryzom aren't either which might be why many posts are not understandable by those that don't understand the language somebody posts in when it is not their native tongue.

I know you understand what I'm saying, but I hope others will add to the discussion and contribute their thoughts.

My simple thought is: to make an 'Auto-Translate' by machine (triad) or whatever, on every topic based on the language a person picks as their main tongue.
