As title says.

The game is supposedly in the Software Center, according to apps.ubuntu.com. However, if you click on the button to take you to the Software Center, you get an error that "There isn’t a software package called “ryzom” in your current software sources.". Manually searching for Ryzom yields 0 results too.

This was just pointed on irc by a second party too, so I do not believe it's a problem of my machine. They were on Ubuntu 14.04.

Yes, it is not listed in software center, i had to download tar file and run it.

Ryzom est dans les dépôts de la 14.04... Mais il faut peut-être activer les dépôts "universe" et "multiverse".

De toutes façons, préférez la version du ppa qui est plus à jour et corrige certains bugs.

I agree with the point about PPA, but the Ubuntu Software Center is where a lot of players find Ryzom.

So, let's focus on trying to understand why there is a problem with the Software Center. I think I activated all necessary repositories:

J'ai utilisé plusieurs fois la logithèque, sans le ppa, pour installer ryzom sur la 14.04. Si il ne se trouve plus dans les dépôts, c'est peut-être qu'il en a été retiré récemment. Il me semble que le planning de développement prévoyait justement une mise à jour dans la logithèque Ubuntu.

Est-ce qu'on peut encore le trouver avec "apt-get" via la console ?

Nope, sudo apt-get install ryzom gives "E: Unable to locate package ryzom". I asked in #ubuntu on Freenode, and it seems that the game was removed from the 14.10 repositories. I don't understand why.

Ask Ubuntu? Or ask the developers?

This idea of "I'm offended". Well I've got news for you. I'm offended by a lot of things too. Where do I send my list? Life is offensive. You know what I mean? Just get in touch with your outer adult. (Bill Hicks)

I am playing Ryzom because I could find it in Ubuntu 12.04 software center. It is almost 1year since ubuntu 14.04 was out. I guess Ryzom is missing its publicity team otherwise this should never had happened on the first place.

Je joue aussi à Ryzom parce que je l'ai trouvé dans la logithèque Ubuntu... C'est un problème à résoudre.

Hi :)

I submitted a new Ryzom client (2.1.0.5552) for Ubuntu 14.10, 14.04 LTS and 12.04 LTS on 2014-10-24 11:04 and Canonical employee in charge of validating applications didn't yet reply me :(

I'll send him a new email again.

The workaround would be to use the PPA : https://launchpad.net/~ryzom-isv/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

You just need to add in your sources : ppa:ryzom-isv/ppa

In fact, Canonical are taking packages from this PPA and publish them in Ubuntu Software Center after validating them.

While I cannot help with Ubuntu issues, so much to ponder:

Today, I installed my new box, first with OpenSUSE 13.2 to give it a try (I always test it for nostalgia as my first Linux in 1991 was SuSE), and later I installed Aptosid (Hesperides), a Debian Sid distro I like. On both, I simply took a 1 year old USB disk based Ryzom installation (simple copy from an other box), plugged it in and ran it (cd <ryzom_directory>; `pwd`/ryzom_client).

On OpenSUSE, I had to install two 32bit libs ryzom_client complained about, libGL.so (not the exact name, but search for "libGL" in Software manager found it) and librandr.so. Afterwards everything worked fine, except that I had to wait for a ryzum client patch which stuck at 71/90 ; I aborted, restarted, perfect. As a Nvidia user, I had to install the proprietary Nvidia 3D driver before.

On Aptosid (Debian), after installing Nvidia driver (which was slightly more tedious but worked fine following the manual), Ryzom ran out of the box (ok the patch was done, then). For the persistent installation, I simply copied the Ryzom directory to /usr/local/games (my choice, one may place it elsewhere), and created an icon to start it by mouse. This Ryzom "installation" took about 5 minutes. Afterwards, I copied a more recent save folder backup to the new box (another 30 seconds ;)).

What I want to say: It can save you hours of download and installation to save a working Ryzom installation to an appropriate medium. This is, btw., true for Windows as well. I frequently ran Ryzom off a USB stick, there, or simply copied it to Program Files folder.

Same settings as you Mj with 1 Exception - I use server for UK rather than 'Main Server' for software sources.

App Store version is 13.10 and I run 14.04 LTS. A search in App store for Ryzom tells me version ryzom 2.1.0.4658-0ubuntu2 is avilable.

I've not added any PPA source myself so the repository does have a version for 14.04.

Taking a closer look:

1. My installed version (installed from App Store) is ryzom 2.1.0.4658-0ubuntu2
2. https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/ryzom/ refernces an older version (Version: 2.1.0.2814)

Looks like App store needs an update (?)

[FR]Question, puisque le ppa est plus à jour que la logithèque ubuntu, pourquoi ne pas mettre un script pour ajouter le ppa dans le sources.list ?

Pas besoin d'un script, y'a déjà une commande pour ajouter un ppa :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ryzom-isv/ppa

Et pour mettre a jour et installer :
sudo apt-get update && apt-get install ryzom
