Sey Lordoy!

Following a report of new clusters of Gibbai in Verdant Heights, specifically Upper Bog and Kami Circle, I invoked a pact. I was startled to see gibbai almost instantly upon arrival at the Karavan Fleeting Garden altar. There were two groups of perhaps thirty Crabby and Belligerent Gibbai, near the Trove Workshop, then another group to the south of those.

I carefully scouted further north and found nothing, but to the south , on the very border of Heretic's Hovel I saw something worse. Not only a troop of Gibbai, but a pustulant eruption of fresh goo, and Gibbai that had obviously been affected by the Goo -- Seepiing Gibbai and Foaming Gibbai.

Sneaking further south, I saw two more eruptions, each surrounded by Gibbai, the last one trending west from the previously north-south line. The presence of kipukas and other beasts who think I taste good cut off further investigations in the Hovel, but it is clear to me that such investigations need to be made and by a strong party.

I then went to Fearing Fen Farm and found yet another Goo eruption and more Gibbai, both tainted and untainted. North of there I found two more groups of Gibbai near the road, but no eruptions in Fleeting Gardens. I have not explored to the south, in the Fearing Fens, but I fear that there is more Goo there.

The Goo eruptions worry me, as they ought to worry all homins. Are the Gibbai causing them? Or are the Gibbai victims of the Goo and moving away from it? In either case, they will have to be dealt with.

Why is the Goo suddenly appearing in Verdant Heights? Have the Matis scientists once more made an unforseen mistake similar to what befell Silan or are stronger forces at work?

I pray that all homins of good will investigate and add the results of your investigations to this thread.

I thank Bitttymacod for his investigations.

I beg the Council of Nobles to take this threat seriously and organise some sort of deeper investigation. I for one would hate to see my forest home consumed by the Goo that blights the Jungles of the Zorai. If I may be of service please contact me, I would be glad to help.

With no Nobles to be found on such short notice and time of the essence, I took an advance on the orders that would no doubt be coming and went to investigate.

After confirming Bitty's observations in Heretics Hovel, I decided to ask the tribe of the Darkening Sap what they had seen of these Gibbaï. After all it is their region and they are allies of the Matis. I took a secret path through the maze that led me to their camp, on the way observing that there did not seem to be any unusual Gibbaï inside the maze, though I did not nearly see all of it.

Arriving at the camp however, I was startled by what I saw. Not only a huge group of infested Gibbaï right outside the camp, but a group of what appeared to be Marauders camping right next to it. I ran into the Darkening Sap camp to find what was going on, and found the whole tribe up in arms.

While they have always welcomed me into their camp, to my shock, they now turned on me before I could ask them anything, and I barely escaped with my life!

My only thought was they must have been turned crazy by the Goo as have the Gibbaï been.

Fleeing from my Darkening Sap pursuers, I confirmed the presence of Gibbaï all the way up to Kami Circle, where unfortunately the Sacred Sap tribe still had a grief against me for an earlier misunderstanding, so I was not able to ask their help either. They did not seem corrupted as the Darkening Sap had been though.

I didn't find shelter until I made it to the camp of the Ecowarriors. Seeing the Fearing Fens were infested with Gibbaï as well, and seeing the fate of the Darkening Sap, I feared for the tribe of the Slash and Burn in southern Upper Bog, trapped behind the Gibbaï infestations and possibly corrupted as well.

However, I was in no condition to make it to their camp to investigate anymore. After a brief recovery I hastily returned to the safety of Yrkanis. I await the call for further action.

Explorind deeper into the Fearing Fens, I found another goo pustule, again surrounded by Gibbai.
Again Kipucka here, as well as other kitins. It seems they are spreading again in greater numbers, maybe drawn by the goo or the Gibbai (in the past I have observed greater kitin concentrations near groups of Gibbai, is there a relation between them we know nothing about?).
Further south, along the road between Slough of the Demon and Panting Pass, I spotted a large camp of heavily armed Darkening Sap.
After seeing Marelli's warning, I didn't dare approach them to ask them for information.
Here too, some Gibbai were present, as well as numerous torbak, and Kinagor was feasting on arma in the area.
The Slash and Burn attacked me, but not after they'd let me enter their camp and talk with several members who didn't seem to realise that anything is out of the ordinary, a worrying development.

Investigations into the Panting Pass showed no unusual kitin or Gibbai activity.

Actually I believe Noble Sharonie and I were one of the first homins to discover this threat while en route back to the Matis kingdom following a visit to the lakelands.

We were astounded to find this vast gathering of Gibbai which didn't seem to end. At first we just concluded that they must just of had a very successful breeding season, however, when we were forced to come in to closer contact with them it quickly became apparent that these gibbai were acting very strangely.

I approached with weapon at the ready as as I'm sure you all know, Gibbai are not usually the most friendly of sorts. Strangely though, they didn't seem to mind my presence at all, but then all of a sudden, a large group turned on us, becoming very aggressive and attacking us! We also were very lucky to get away with our lives!

Of course the authorities were immediately informed.

It is good to see so many worthy homins investigating this troubling matter. I do wish to ask Marelli: did you map the locations of the Gibbai between the Darkening Sap camp and Kami Circle? I found the linear nature of the infestations to be very curious, and they may end up being important if it turns out that the problem is spreading.

I am reminded of the quest to find the Zorai researcher who was working on researching the Goo. There were faux members of tribes, and Marauders, too. We must be wary of the involvement of the Marauders and make sure that we do not act in such a way as to harm the loyal members of the tribes.

I did not myself map the infestations, certainly not their movement over time.
But I did observe Gibbai roaming through the Upper Bog with what seemed to be a purpose, rather than their more usual behaveour of hanging around an area rather aimlessly.

Is this a migration in progress? Are they being controlled in some way (the marauder controlled gingos of 2548 come to mind)?
Whatever it is, we must find a way to prevent them from making their way into thinly defended Loria, as I doubt the guards at Avendale would be able to stop them once they reach that town.

#10 [en]

Iala, are they moving south as well as north? I had assumed that they were moving towards the gentle lands of Majestic Gardens.

Getting through Loria will not be easy (as we all know), but the Loria gate to the Hovel is not protected at all. I do not want to think of Fijoo affected by the Goo.

We need to beseech the Nobles to act as soon as hominly possible to stem this infestation, lest it take over all of Atys.

I do not know if they are moving south, but can we risk leaving the lakes undefended?

Right now I have no opportunity to assess this threat, can only hope other homins can do so and ascertain whether it exists and how serious it is.

This is an intriguing report, Bitttymacod. I hope the Matis Nobles can unveil this mystery. But perhaps more importantly, I urge them to exercise caution when dealing with the Goo.

Please remember Silan and the recent incident in Yrkanis. We've had our share of failed experiments already. The Goo is a threat to Atys and it should be fought and eradicated, not toyed with.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no doubt the Goo is spreading. It is no longer a localized infection in the Jungle - first Darkmoor in the Lakelands and now the Forest. It is about time this becomes a major concern for all civilizations and tribes on Atys and not only a Zoraï problem.

And Bittty, I agree that there could be some relation with Nung's research on the Goo. At the very least we should study his amber cube more closely and take his words more seriously.

I trekked a guildie from Yrkanis to Fairhaven yesterday. I am thankful to report that we encountered NO fresh goo eruptions in the Maze of Sprite, although there were several in the northern areas of Heretic's Hovel.

#14 [en]

I was finally able to reach the camp of the Slash and Burn tribe today, and fortunately found them no crazier than usual. It seems so far only the Darkening Sap has fallen prey to... whatever this is.

However, both paths to the Slash and Burn camp were partly blockaded, one by a large armed group of Darkening Sap, the other by a large group of armed Fyros, probably Marauders. From their placement, I suspect they might be planning to conquer the Slash and Burn tribe, possibly to corrupt them too as was done with the Darkening Sap.

I would suggest that we start preparing for a large military operation to put a stop to this before it spreads to other tribes. If left unchecked we might soon find every tribe in southern Verdant Heights corrupted and marching against the Matis cities.

In the meantime, concerned homins can start culling the infested gibbaï already. The infestations seem to occur in 3 roughly north-south lines, one in Upper Bog and one on each side of Heretics Hovel.

I note that there is a recent announcement from Zaero Stachini, Royal Anthropologist, that he(?) wishes to speak with Nobles and concerned Subjects on Holeth, Pluvia 6, 4th AC 2550 (JY) at 0h * at the Royal Conservatory regarding the recent increase of the Gibbaï population in the Verdant Heights. He has said that any freelancers wishing to share their expertise or volunteer their time are welcome to attend.

Unfortunately I cannot be present at that time. Can one of the other contributors to this discussion bring the results of our investigations to Zaero's attention? I fear that being a Matis academic he(?) will not appreciate the true danger that this represents.
