I would like to know if player housing / player shops are in the game with deep crafting? My favorite crafting game was SWG and would love to find a game that gives me that feeling again.

Deep crafting, in the sense that recipies must be actually tested and the best gear is player made -- yes.

Player housing (apartments) can be purchased and with the Ryzom Forge initiative there are likely to be a lot more decoration options soon.  Right now, it's just lightly decorated storage and a meeting space. (The storage is only available to subscribers; anyone can buy the apartment.)

No player shops, if what you mean is a permanent location where a player can put their things (and only their things) up for sale.  There are vendors that will re-sell goods for you, but you need to keep track of them because if it doesn't sell in a week, and you don't retrieve it, the vendors toss it on the trash heap.

Most "selling" is done by trade in person.

So there is no auction house? or is the npc vendors the auction house? Do you have to travel to the npc that sells the items to see it or is there a public area to access all items up for sale?

#4 Report | Quote[en]

There is no auction house.  It's not an auction at all, just straight sales.  You have to go to a vendor type (weap/armor/jewel/etc.) in the continent where the item was put on sale in order to see what's on sale.

This is why most sales are in person.

Ok so there is vendors through the world that let you put stuff up for sale and or word of mouth correct?

#6 Report | Quote[en]

Both are correct. In addition once you have made a name for yourself as a crafter, people will seek you out. Lastly there is a Bazaar section in the Forums where you can advertise.

How is the population ? Is there only one server? How will it be for crafting in the early levels finding buyers? Thanks for the replies.

#8 Report | Quote[en]

There is only one server. Population is low, but not critically so (IMHO). Plenty of people to chat to.

As a low level crafter you will not make that much money. You will sell most of your stuff to the vendor for a few paltry dappers. To make money you will craft for missions, do other missions, and do Occupations. This is OK because the economy is *not* a cash-based economy. The things you need dappers for are tools for crafting and harvesting, teleport pacts, and mounts (and food for them) (mounts plural because they can die). The things you need in terms of armor, weapons and the like you will get from your guildies or make for yourself (once you get some levels in...)

((Other uses for dappers are apartments, guild halls and buying NPC's for Outpost battles, but you won't have to worry about that for a long time. :) ))

Thanks again for the information. I will give this a try and see how it goes.

A good few years ago, when major changes were made to SWG, Ryzom had an influx of players from there. Many of them told me it felt like a similar game so maybe you'll enjoy life on the rootball. :o)

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

The main difference with crafting in SWG is that you don't get experimentation points.

Like in SWG resources have specific qualities and generally, the better the resource, the harder it is to obtain.

I also loved the crafting system in "old-style" SWG and what you'll find on Atys is VERY similar.
