I'm an old timer that's been around on and off since beta testing in 2004. Ryzom has had many owners over the years and even went dark for a while but 10 years later, it's still kicking.

Oh, and welcome to the root ball!

Welcome to Atys.

Ryzom is the game that refuses to die, several companies have tried to kill it but it keeps on ticking. Like Gorran I've been playing since 2004 so Ryzom is hardly a flash in the pan. Will it be around for a while yet? Seems likely.

Is it 'worth' it? Only you can decide that, depends if you enjoy playing it for a start! The fact that you've had 2 replies from 10 year 'vets' should tell you something though... ;o)

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

I may not be a veteran but in my modest opinion it's worth it.

Ryzom is a complex world that amazes me every time I log on. Seasonality, wildlife that looks alive and much more.

The subscription fee is very modest compared to most online games and you can try it for free until level 125. (And you can do quite a lot at 125 as well).

I've only got 9 years under my belt, but I never left Atys since. I have no idea if the game will live through another decade, but then I have no idea if *I* will live through another one. Either it or I have to kick the bucket, though, before they'll get rid of me. ;)

Yes, management seems bent on "don't let it die" first. That means a very risk-averse strategy and most of the budget seems to go on upkeep.

So, on the bright side, less likely the game will die anytime soon.

Downside, we don't see much content outside roleplay and user-contributed stuff (lately via the Ryzom Forge). If you're a hardcore powerplayer you could probably see all the content in game in a few months.

Absolutely! But you will soon find that out for yourself. Ryzom has a way of enchanting players from the get go, you either like it or you don't, and if you like it you ain't going to leave...eva! :)

Welcome!

This idea of "I'm offended". Well I've got news for you. I'm offended by a lot of things too. Where do I send my list? Life is offensive. You know what I mean? Just get in touch with your outer adult. (Bill Hicks)

in a simple single word "totally"

i've been around for more then a few years, not the full 10, but a total of about 6 (give or take a year)

this game has things to offer that most other games don't, like a community that's welcoming, friendly, and helpful.

give it a shot, play for free for a few months, make some friends, and then decide what you think of the game, i look forward to hearing your thoughts in the future.

Welcome, Deserve, to the madness that is Ryzom. Try it for free, subscribe when you wake up thinking about it, and most of all, HAVE FUN :-)

Worth the effort of creating and growing a character just to see the plug pulled in x months time? Sure it's worth it. If the game goes offline for good there will be plenty of support groups for the players who can't live without a regular dose of Atys, so there is a safety net. Or will be. Hopefully. Actually none of us wants to think about that seriously.

Is it ever worth falling in love? With the risk that it all might end too soon? Is it ever worth risking your heart, knowing that it might get broken? Big Yes to all of that.

I think that pretty much sums up the feeling of most long term Atysians. :o)
