Very simple, very deadly. New region full with high level aggro mobs. The type of place you need a whole team to survive. One or two safe spots, no safe paths. Having read some of Talkirc's posts recently, here is one of my ideas for a new zone. Elaboration below:

PvP. Ah yes of course I had to bring this up. The dreaded "P word". Well this may surprise you but I don't think this region should be PvP. One of my reasons for wanting a new region is to bring some new fire into the game. That new fire would quickly be extinguished if the majority of the playerbase heard it was a PvP zone. This region should be difficult and tough, but not scare off people because of PvP. Besides I would hope there would be so much aggro that PvP wouldn't even be possible, even if it was enabled. Perhaps if the population swells it would be nice, but not in the current state.

Digging spots. Supreme mats. The idea is that people should not be able to dig here in a group of 3. You would need an entire team, maybe even 2 or 3 in some areas, to successfully dig and make it worth your while. The idea of this region isn't to generate a new source of mats but rather a new source of fun. Although it will be generating a new source of mats, and this is obviously the main reason people will enter such a place, the point is people will be having fun, in big teams, whilst doing so.

Bosses. What would a region be without bosses? 2 or 3 would be great. Aggro bosses, with their guards, heaped in more aggro. Too many bosses are in far too safe spots. The bosses would also have to be hard to kill. Why not make it a mat everyone is dying to get their hands upon at q270- such as an ocyx. In addition to this of course is named mobs. With such a difficult zone, decent nameds would be fittingly rewarding.

Roleplay. Obviously a new region would require an introduction. I am sure there are many many ways to introduce such a region and they would change dependent upon where the region was. If it was an underground region it could be discovered much like the kitin swarming was- by miners digging too deep (if that is indeed what happened). Naema's suggestion was that the new region could contain Almati's secret lost laboratory. This would require an uncovering of the new region entrance in Almati Woods.

Teleports and Portals. I personally believe there should be no teleports to such a ruthless region, partly due to its late introduction. There should be one way in and one way out. If bosses were to spawn it should be deep within the aggro and away from the portal. People should have an extremely tough time reaching the bosses and no dig spots should be near the portal either.

Kitins and goo. Could choose to involve kitins more, or less. This new zone could be completely infested with them of all types. Could even have another kitin nest with a decent bounty of kitin larva. Could even make this zone a complete goo-fest. Make every single mob corrupted with goo and make players receive goo damage everywhere. A less extreme measure would be to have a goo corner which could be manipulated for use in future events.

Locations. Where to put such a zone is a big question. I understand it would be a lot easier and this would have a lot bigger chance of happening if an existing map were to be used. There is the 3rd island region adjacent to dantes camp and almati woods however this isn't very big. There are the starter islands that could be used but I do not think that would be a good idea either. Instead I would opt for a new land, preferably underground. Could just clone large amounts of the other underground regions to create it.

NPC boss. A new land would be the perfect opportunity to introduce a new NPC boss. The lore could tie in that this boss had been hiding here all along in secret and now we have uncovered their base. The 2 lands that are missing NPC LA bosses are the Forrest and the Desert. It could be for example that Fyros miners have once again opened up pandoras box by their accidental digging- this could tie in nicely with Mezix. Or this could happen for example with the Matis.

Mysterious ruins and safe spots. As bittty suggested a safe spot could be used as a "halfway house" so to speak. Not something easy like water to swim in so players can speed and drop aggro. Instead a small safe area where players could firstly wipe the aggro they have encountered, then enjoy a little break. No mats should be diggable here. Mysterious ruins running throughout the whole region would be a great touch, perhaps 3-5 areas. One such area could be the destination of the NPC boss. A backstory could be tied into this. For example (just an example) the NPC boss could be trying to harness some ancient kara tech? Once again could tie in with future events, perhaps this technology could be vital in dealing with the arrival of Megacorp or even offer teleportation to new lands (obviously in the very far future).

________________________________

I do think a new region should be introduced. I believe this game needs more activities that require a whole team or more. Every boss (except NPCs) and every dig spot can be dealt with using 5 or less masters. Only the NPCs actually require a team or two. Pei-Ruiz is the only regular reason a team of masters come together. Dante sees 1 team come together every 2 days. A new zone that is tough and has a reason for teams to come together would be brilliant and I believe would see the playerbase swell.

A land that requires a team to move around would be a great deal of fun to the game. Moreover due to the high intensity of aggro in this region and no safe spots (except the one portal), to scout solo around this would be suicide and egg users would quickly find their stocks depleted. Some may argue the excitement will wear off but I do not share this opinion. People still come together for pei, they would still come together for this. Also a quick word on the kitin nests. They don't need anymore than 5 people to dig which is why large forces don't regularly enter them. This new region would be different.

EDIT: Added Bitty's suggestions.
EDIT2: Added Naema's suggestion.

This could be even an "old lands" part, discovered by Wilk Potskin during the ranger story arc. Would explain the lack of altars and the aggressiveness of the mobs. Since Wilk mentioned the old lands are rife with kitin, that would be a mandatory attribute.

glad to see my 10,000 words of ideas sparked others to voice ideas. i'm in full support of this as well as my ideas. i'll start releasing the roleplay stories in the near future, that's the other 20,000 or so words i've wrote, since i wanted to not only offer my ideas, but give them some history and reason to be.

Well, I could add a few thoughts, based on my own biases.

Safe Spots: I would not say "no safe spots", but few of them and difficult to get to. Also no diggable mats near the safe spots. Even the best team needs time to rest and recuperate, and if the region is big enough to be interesting, then a reward for getting halfway in towards the NPC lair, or just a place to rest for a moment in the ruins of a mysterious city would add to the attraction, I think. Like all "safe places" in Atys, Named could wander by at any time .

Mysterious Ruins: As mentioned above, there should be mysterious ruins. The NPC boss should be in one of them, but there should be others as well, some of them safe, some of them not. See Naema's journey for some samples of what might be usable. If some enterprising 3-D modeler could come up with some bits and pieces, perhaps they could be thrown at this project.

Goo threat: Having it be all goo all the time seems to me to be a bit extreme, but there might be a Goo-area that could be addressed in missions based on long term study of the Goo.

Player help: Let's face it, this isn't going to happen if the only people available for setting it up are the current devs and event team. Lots of players, with lots of talents, are going to have to commit work with it, even if the devs think it is do-able. If we can pursuade the devs to open up the Ring I know that we still have a few people who did very good things with the Ring in making new lands. I'm sure that there are programmers out there (*cough* Karu). Hell, I can even do primitive 3-D modeling of stationary objects.

That's some more thoughts.

Thank you Bittty :)

You make a very good point about the safe spots. 1 with the added bonus of something mysterious would be perfect and perhaps 1 more depending on the size of the region.

Are you referring to the NPC boss? A little goo area would be a nice touch as well, perhaps with the added ability to transfer to somewhere else during events- much like with the goo rangers and darkmoor.

How would we go about persuading the devs to open the ring? :)

I like some elements of this. As long as the aggro is not totally impossible to kill in a big team, One could assemble a team and enter the Kinreys nest in FD but it would take forever to kill them! Are you thinking of something more along the lines of Loria's worst spots? perhaps with scattered kinreys? The big ones are tough to kill especially in a swarm.
Otherwise, I like the idea of one way in, lol. Perhaps a portal in GoC since other q250 zones have a portal, but GoC does not. Also, I think it is a good way to include clues as to what happened to Alamati and his secret Lab perhaps.
Maybe Goo mats or information on the goo can be included.

Ah yes the aggro would of course be manageable in a big team but progress would not be fast (in my head anyway). My issue with the current q250 zones is that they are riddled with safe paths and once you know these paths the areas do not present much of a challenge.

Not as thick as a nest per-say but yes more like Loria's worst spots. If the dev team had to go either way I would rather they made it harder rather than easier.

Ohhoo yes Almati's secret lab! That would be a great possible roleplay line for it! To tie in nicely for this the portal would have to be discovered in Almati to this new region:

"A secret laboratory situated in mysterious caverns buried under the trees' roots."

This could fit in with the introduction of the NPC boss. For example (and this is only an example) I had an idea in my post about Mezix that she would take up temporary residence to rebuild her stock of gingos. As we already know Mezix has huge gingos most likely obtained through selective breeding or experiments. She could perhaps be searching for Almati's lab (or even have found it) and be trying to manipulate his alchemy equipment into enhancing her gingos to be faster, stronger and bigger.

as PR mats are universal...if new land is above ground, would be nice to see Race specific Supreme mats. Perhaps all races available in same region( all subject to the most sensitive weather of course) . With no control of what Racial Sup will pop, there would be added difficulty in obtaining them. Just food for thought...any opinions?

I do think the idea is an interesting one :) Whilst I have aimed most of my examples at an underground region I have failed to properly take into account a region above ground. This would certainly give some variety to the game if the region was above ground. Seeing as there is a current thread on dyes there is definitely a demand for a greater colour choice without affecting armour quality. This could be the answer dependent on what colour racial supremes were.

Maybe it can be made "Way to old lands" region with all ways blocked and numerous kitins and KP in it. Fun will be when the item it gives is high valued but you need a lots of pieces to get some reward.. maybe 150 kitin pieces for any q200 OP mats/sup mats and 250 pieces for q250 OP mats/sup mats...

I have and am looking forward to the possibility of it :)

If there is any planning work needed for it I am happy to write out (inc map) the complete version of this (and I mean complete) with any amendments the devs would like. Hopefully that would take a lot of work out of it then only the actual plan would need implementing.

seams that i provided at least one possible outline called "upper branches". while it doesn't have to be the exact name i choose, or done exactly the way i outlined, i used much of what's already here, so very little new work for the dev's. there's much to the overall idea i crated, a place for mara to come and go freely in towns, a place that anyone can find missions to do that are not based on fame, a place that higher level players can find fun in the gameplay, and is still open to lower level players that are either brave or come in force, there's many angles to the idea i had, and while i know that virg disagrees with my posting it out there for everyone to look at, i'm not like the dev's/gm's that hide behind the keyboard and don't offer ideas to the paying public.

sooner or later there will be some reason that none of this can be done, and saddly we'll never be told that it's because the owner's of the game refused it (again).

let's face it, if you want something new in ryzom, you have to run your own server and get your own people to create what you want. (i say this because there's nothing that really show's us players anything serious is being done, otherwise give every paying player a f2p account on the "test shard")

anyway, i'll save my rant for another day, but let's be clear, there are some "ideas" about a new land, and there are outlines and stories to new lands, neither of which have been taken seriously by the dev's, at least as far as anyone can tell because of severe lack of response from the dev's.
