IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Hello!

I was talking with another homin, and she was commenting on how packers are more a burden than a help because how easy they die and the slow they are. I though something that would be more fun that having fellow homins traveling on foot protecting the convoy of packers: ridding kitins!

Yes, kitins as pets for people to ride them and make the job of bodyguard for long and dangerous travels. When you ride them, you should have the action to command them to attack any mob that wish to depredate the packer convoy when you ride the kitin pet.

How much life and strength should have this kitin pet? Well, I think that to make it attractive to any player in the game, this kitin should have +50% more points based on the points of life and the most powerful melee action with the most powerful weapon the player have in his bag to equip, among other factors that I don't know but shouldn't be left out because they are important on combat.

I suggest this based on the necessity of making more attractive traveling with packers (I'm not that advanced on the game, but, for what they are useful besides storing items?) and adding cool stuff to the game, and also because other games have this feature (but is a blurry memory that I have if it was on WoW and if it was how players use their pets or whatever name they use for them in the not-so-good game).

Pax et bonum.

Heya, Shackra --

I'm not sure if you or your friend were aware of the fact that there are packers with different levels of constitution (and hence hitpoints) and also different levels of speed. Naturally, fast durable mektoubs are the most expensive, but they are worth it. As to their utility, ask any homin who uses launchers or other ranged missile weapons if they could be effective without a string of packers. In addition packers and mounts move much more rapidly if properly fed. (They also are attacked only if they are following a homin. If they are standing still, they are not attacked. Therefore if you are wandering through a dangerous area you should have a macro to "disconnect" your packers if you need to fight.)

In fact, most homins use the packs of mektoub packers as simple stable storage and buy, of course, the slowest and least robust of the packers because, well, they're going to spend their life in the stable and paddock.

The desire of players for an option for pets and for mounts other than mektoubs extends back many years. There have even been some very detailed proposals made. (Two examples: app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/17685/1 and http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/16218/1# 1) There are serious issues of game balance in the addition of pets that actually have offensive capability (as noted by the writers in the second thread); in addition there is the matter of Lore that only mektoubs have been tamed by civilized homins, and only varinx, igaras, ragus and gingos even by the most talented of the Marauders (*).

That Lore, by itself is not sufficient to say that an enterprising and talented homin mihgt not find a way to tame a yubo. However there is no way that a homin is ever going to tame a kitin to ride. They are controlled by their Queens (through means we do not yet understand) and even a kipee or kiban may turn upon homins if their territory is invaded or the Queens feel threatened) Recent events show this clearly.

For reasons of difficulty of balance, incompatibility with Lore, and the fact that it hasn't been done yet, I'm afraid that your dream of riding a kitin will remain just that: a dream.

Awww, I see. Indeed, I have ear about those proposals, but didn't found them while I was doing my little research before posting.

Well, hope it don't get stuck in a dream though...

Actually the Lore originally intened the Trykers to have aquatic mounts. But those were never fully developed.

So that is one example of Homins taming other creatures. Also the Matis have some tame named Yubos and Bodoks as town pets.

I don't really see problems with other animals. Gnoofs for example seem to be very similar to Mektoubs and might be tamed very similarly. Their armor would make them much tougher though.
