IDEAS FOR RYZOM

I believe the current status qvo is detrimental to the beginners in the long run. Here's the gist : I'm a crafter, I love making good stuff.

However, I hate my work to be wasted. You make q60 amps, the player will outgrow them in 2 days (assuming worst case scenario, solo training). You make a nice heavy armor? It's not nice in 3 days.

I tried three times to give away a light armor set that was slightly worn, by asking Universe. Some players don't read Universe, some don't want freebies, some are too shy to speak up. The options to trade, once an item has been slightly worn, are VASTLY inferior.

I understand the reasoning -- it's supposed to keep crafters in business. This makes no sense as long as there are NPC missions that pay much better than any individual human could. Crafters work mostly pro bono, because we want to, not because of an economic incentive. So at least be consistent and allow items to be resold at any point in their life, thus giving crafters reason to craft low q items.

Great idea - but if this is implemented, we also must have filters in the shops to filter out wearlevels.

For example in addition to the type, quality, and price filters we'd need a fourth one where we could choose between "brand new", "20% worn", "40% worn", "60% worn", "80% worn", and "almost broken".

One thing to consider is the attitude of some to use the traders as storage barns. If we allow the sale of used items, then used armour can be stored with a trader, selecting a 9999% overprice as homins often do. One would not do that for the ultimate special gear, but for regular armour, I suppose. This would abuse the traders even more.

Maybe we then need to enforce tight limits of how many goods can be put up for sale at any one time? Maybe used stuff that is traded, will additionally loose some HP while being at the trader just because people try it on, etc? New items would always remain new. Traders treat them with special care.

How about activating the 'Restoration specialist' in each main city? Wouldn't that help the problem? Homins could pay to have their gear fixed with dappers, or something else...

Was just to say the restoration specialist has a job in piecing together NPC plans :)

Maybe we have here the perfect match for the webig system.
2nd hand merchant... with a totally new webig interface, with the usual HTML page perks like sorting for any/most fields, etc.

With a good design, we could maybe replace the classic merchants someday.
(If we do don't forget to implement the current shortcuts, like shift-enter!!)

Have fun,
Nuno

You can make a guild for that too and playing those merchant in role play or making a market (something like every once in a week) at some capital to sell them to new player, almost lke what we were doing on aniro for cat or op stuff, but here to allow low level player to sell or buy used gear.

+1 Osquallo - was just thinking it is like a jumble/car boot/yard sale - homins meet in FH (coz it is sunny there) and give old stuff away to anyone who wants it - a regular slot would mean homins got to know about it - but having a guild who only had 2nd hand stuff would be even better - then they could easily be contacted by refugees from Silan and others - volunteers?

This idea of "I'm offended". Well I've got news for you. I'm offended by a lot of things too. Where do I send my list? Life is offensive. You know what I mean? Just get in touch with your outer adult. (Bill Hicks)

Bina, Osquallo --

Please stick to the actual topic of the thread :)

The idea was precisely to allow used items to go back on the market, not to help refugees by seeking them out. Setting up events is far more time-consuming than simply enabling new mechanics on existing npcs.

For the record, there were previous attempts, like Feylin's refugee days, or like the Pyr kami market in Cheapside; neither was particularly successful, if I remember correctly. To my mind, these 'solutions' are inferior, in that they depend on player presence. NPC shops are there 24/7, you can't beat that in any way.

Nuno --

That would indeed be an interesting implementation, but only if it comes officially from the gave devs. A player-made app could not cut it.

(hum, web interface could mean checkboxes and string filters... allowing to select all jewels after you grind.. wet dreams)

Irfidel --

The exploitation of merchants was noted to me in private too. Person suggested (and I agree) you can cap the resale price for used items, making it risky to store your shiny stuff, because it might actually get sold *g*. Your idea with item life going down can work too, and actually the max percentage cap can go down too with each resale (merchant is tired of your efforts).

I'm not too worried about adding additional filters. Players must inspect each item individually already - to see if its properties are desirable; they will just have to check one more property, that's all. What's better, to buy an unused axe with bad damage and speed, or to buy a used axe with full damage and speed? If you insist, another tab in the resale window can do the trick, split into Resale (new) and Resale (used).

Thank you all for your thoughts :)

Treu - npc would be good - but a guild is doable w/o any fiddling with the game by devs

the subjet is resale of used item so i stick to it and we are in idea forum, and it's an idea to resale used object....

fey lin was not succesfull because nobody really know of it too.

this solution are ryzom minded more thant suppressing all roleplay alternativ by doing thing automaticaly.

It was very used on aniro and such market was very succesfull too.
