Hello guys!!!

I am righting this forum post because I am concerned by the fact that the game its being killed via the endless friendship between the factions, there is not sufficient role-play in the game to keep it interesting and alive. The Kami – Kara conflict its non-existent reducing the game to the endless levelling and the occasional clashes with the few Marauders left.

In my opinion the heart of this type of game it’s the PVP conflict and as the numbers of marauders are currently dropping significantly due to the extreme difficulty of competing with the "Kami – Kara faction" the chances for a PVP conflict are tending to zero.

And we all know that passions are not ignited by the boundless friendship and equality but by diversity, inequality and competition, which in the present situation are non-existent!!! So what do you say guys is it time for the Kami-Kara friendship to die?

There's noting for the factions to fight over though. Maybe something like the Spires should be reconsidered.

On Ari we had many many wars. There was a huge kami-kara friendship but both factions constantly fought. This proves the friendship has nothing to do with the lack of wars. An example is my RL girlfriend (kara) wants nothing better than to take my OP off my hands.

The real reason there are no OP wars is because the kami are stronger. The kami are stronger because they put the effort into being stronger. The other faction numbers sadly dwindled as the people who would rather complain than train left. There are many in the other factions who are working hard towards strengthening their own, they just need more players like themselves.

At the end of the day other factions just need to put more effort into training, rather than complaining and quitting. Once their strength matches the kami and they win a war I bet their numbers will see a boost as all the people who just expect things to work out resub.

last i checked, Kami and Kara dont join forces vs Maru. The Kami simply don't need to, when Kara and Maru have "independantly" attacked 2+ seperate Kami OPs at the same time, Kami still held both of them - though some did make it to the next phase.

Also, Virgs post. wich magicaly appeared whilst i posted this one :D

The last i check the red dragons op was we were 16 mara and aprox. 80 kami and you still had to fight till the last round to keep the op and almost lost it any way!!!. So its not about the quality of the kamis just the shear numbers given by the fact that you get the best selection base.

#6 Report | Quote[en]

To add more info to that Indigo, what actually happened, all kami turned up, and no mara turned up for the first 10 rounds!

Then, around 60% of the Kami left, due to boredom, bosses needed killing, 2 seperate teams of full masters left and went boss hunting, and a 3rd started doing LA Pei - all whilst the rest of the OP battle was still happening.

The force that was left included a chunk of afk alts, some f2p players and a handful of masters.

The current forum its about the fact that the game its dead and not the outcome of a certain op war, we get every day some new f2p in the game and they just drop out because there is not sufficient action to keep them captivated, they run to World of Warcraft and there rubbish graphics because of the higher accent placed on the PVP making the game more interesting.

But i suppose its as usual you get all passionate in the forums and chats and when it comes to the game you forget all about the backbone of this game, which its the rivalry between factions. I my humble opinion part of that its given by the fact that there are not sufficient arenas for PVP, two of them on Matis territory, which it's quite good compared to nil in the other territories (to my knowledge).

All i was trying to do its shine a light on the elephant in the room "the game is dead" and I would like to keep it alive!!!!

Agreed, roleplay forum is for IC posts, not threads about the game.

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

I meant of course without the "penalize the weaker faction and neutrals"-bit, nobody would want that.

I don't understand how the games backbone can be considered to be pvp, when it wasn't implemented till far past the games launch.

This is reminding me of the other Marauder's post Arispotle Syndrome and I believe a lot of people tried to explain things from their point of view on there regarding the infamouse Kara + Kami friendship.

You know what though... A lot of people got "burned out" after the merger because there were TOO many OP battles going on every week.

Right now, I will agree with you in saying that things have calmed down a lot. But that is because I believe things come to you through hard work and perseverence. Which means you have to work hard to achieve the things you want.

Blaming others for your "downfall" is simply not acceptable.
You telling me, that I am not attacking the Kami because of my friendship with them is, I tell you now, not in the slightest bit correct. You are talking about something you do not know. If you were not on Ari pre-merger then you do not understand how we always set aside our friendships and respect for eachother come battle time to have a thriving server. And if you were not in the Karavan faction then do not speak for us to insinuate that we are not delcaring on the Kami because some players are friends because, I might be wrong, that is the impression that I am getting.

I partially agree with Virg. We had many OP wars on Arispotle, and yes we were friends too. But i personally don't feel Kami have worked harder or are more organized having seen both sides of the factions now. I was very Kara before merge, and have fought in a couple op wars after merge. I think both sides are the same organizationally from what I have seen, they both seem to do the same things. Both are worried about losing their op!

However, I do feel there is definitely more kami playing now and that is the reason they are stronger. it is sheer numbers. I know of at least two guilds from Arispotle that changed from kara to kami after the merge: Grave of the Fireflies, and Guardians of Shadows (formerly Guardians of Jena). That is a lot of active players right there that swings the balance to kami. There may be other factors too. I'm not saying this is the only thing.

Right after the merge, it seemed the mauraders teamed up with the kara and were a strong potent force and It seemed many wanted to help the kami and went that way. Now it would be nice to see more support the other factions.
Perhaps it was the wrong thing to do to introduce the maurader faction? Now it dilutes the dynamics of a kara/kami conflict.
Neutrals can always be Rangers, so they have an outlet, they do not have to be a kara or a kami follower.
Perhaps to introduce new content to the game is not to introduce more factions.

#14 Report | Quote[en]

Kami and Kara numbers were actually very similar and kara had more during some wars.

The difference back then was the effort kami put it. They trained launcher and had considerably more launchers than kara. They also worked hard on their PvP and had better tactics. This made all the difference.

Now however kami have more numbers as many kara stopped playing as they believed OPs should just fall into their hands.

Indigo --

What other Aristopleists have said. There was lots of combat and there was lots of friendship between players and cooperation where an Outpost wasn't in play.

My opinion is this: First: PvP is NOT and never has been the "core" of Ryzom. The conflict between the Karavan and the Kami is *one* core of Ryzom Roleplay, but Roleplay is not necessarily PvP. Roleplay is not even necessarily about conflict between homins. (For one example, see my continuing postings on the roleplay of Bittty as an aspiring Ranger and scout. Atys herself, the Goo and the Kitins provide plenty of opportunity for conflict and roleplay.)

In real life there are a few extremists for whom religion is cause for PvP. In real life most people will accept the fact that their neighbors are (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Bhuddist, Wiccan, Zorastrian...) and while they might attempt to convert them they are not going to be going out of their way to murder them. Similarly with nationalities.

In Ryzom the case is a little more extreme. The Outposts, though officially a Guild vs. Guild contest, have become a Faction vs. Faction (and occasionally Nation vs. Nation) contest. With the primacy of the Kami Faction (for whatever reason) there is little contest because there is no current expectation of winning on the part of the Karavan. (If the Karavan and the Marauders could/would cooperate they could possibly change that, but ... roleplay ... gets in the way.)

If you want to see the OP wars heat up, convince a couple of large currently Kami guilds to switch allegiance and become Karavan. If you can do that, I guarantee that the q250 deposits of bark, resin, and oil will display remarkably low Kami tolerance. Roleplay does not enhance competition for OPs; an approximately equal playing field does.

I am not a PvP person, but I have friends who are. I am neither Karavan nor Kami, but I have friends who are. I used to be a Tryker citizen and a Karavan before the merge. I still had the same friends, and they were friends even when we were battling each other over an OP (before the merge I would fight in OP wars, but I still wasn't fond of PvP).

In short, I think you are looking at an associated symptom rather than a cause.
