I think we've had a number of those in the past weeks, maybe 3 or so? Last one was today of course.

What happens is that the server disconnects everyone briefly, everyone is kicked out, then on relog we find ourselves missing any gained stuff (mats dug, xp gained, etc). I called them server rollbacks, maybe there's a better term. So far the losses haven't been big, maybe 5-10 minutes worth of activity.

Anyway ..

a) could we maybe get a moment's notice before they happen? or are they completely automated?
b) any chance to learn why they're happening?

I believe EGS is one that handles players, so if that crashes players will be disconnected and progress from last save is lost. When it would be controlled restart, then EGS would trigger player save exit.

Rollbacks ocurr with crashes occasionally. There is no way to warn of them as they are crashes that ocurr unexpectedly just like when your own client crashes except it is server wide. Rollback is the term we've used for years for the occurence where you lose 10ish minutes of progress.

At least this is what I know. I'm not the most tech savvy person around though haha.

I did hear from a CSR maybe once quite a while ago that the weekly server resets (where you get a warning and they are at set times) were supposed to prevent any crashes. Though I'm not sure if that's true or not.

i'll never do the wheel again because of one of these rollbacks, lolx
cost me the big dapper payout, could have triggered another achievement with that next save, but so is the quote i use to this day made true with this random event of misfortune, and if there's even a hint of an exterminator it's time for me to go on high alert, looks like more 20 hour play days are ahead, so i'll see you all on the big tree :)
