Hey everyone,

I started playing yesterday and to be honest i am quite liking this game.
There are however a few things that have me confused, and if possible i would like an answer.

- There are different types of offensive magic, how can i know beforehand what creatures are affected by what type of magic. Currently my offensive magic skill is at lvl 30, and i noticed some creatures are not affected by acid for example, so i bought the ice magic and now those creatures are dead.

- Finding missions. I am having quite a hard time finding them, perhaps i am looking in the wrong places tho..

- How is the PvP in Ryzom? I am someone who likes to play PvE and PvP both. It is quite hard however to find a game with even an OK PvP system. any general tips on this are also welcome.

- DR system (Diminishing Returns). For those who don't know what the hell im talking about here, DR is some sort of immunity system where you cannot be chain-stunned or silenced, but become immune to it for an amount of time to still give you a fighting chance.

- I am always interested in playing a healer-side role. I have noticed that using healing spells do not increase the defensive healing tree. Perhaps i am mistaken here, but i would like to know how i can be more effective at healing.

- Gear. I am having a hard time getting new gear. Is it only obtainable thru crafting and trading. Or can i get new gear from completing missions and/or NPC merchants.

Hmm, i guess that about covers it.

I would like to add that i really like the helpfulness of the community, no matter what, there is always someone willing to help. which is a nice change from some games..

Regards,

Parangea

Hi Parangea and welcome to the game.

You ask some good questions so I will try to answer them - others may give more information on some points.

- Different types of offensive magic; Different creatures have different strengths and weaknesses against different types of melee weapons as well as different types of magic. There is a list of creatures and their characteristics on www.ryzomnomnom.com For instance Acid works well against most creatures but not Kitin - the ones with a shell (names start with a 'K'). Cold works best against those as you have discovered.

- Finding Missions; Look for NPCs (non player characters) with a scroll icon by their name. These are the ones that give missions.

- PvP in Ryzom; There is PvP in Ryzom but it is no free-for-all. You can only attack other players under certain controlled circumstances.
1) Challenge to a Duel - right click on the player and pick this option from the menu.
2) PvP areas - There are areas where PvP is permitted and you go there at your own risk. On Silan there is a PvP Arena just outside the main camp.
3) OP Battles - on the Mainland only. Organised battles over control of Outposts.

It has to be said that some players are more enthusiastic about PvP than others. Some never participate.

- DR System; this sounds like 'Melee Protection Aura' and 'Magic Protection Aura'. These give you immunity for a limited amount of time, during which you can continue fighting, and there is a wait before they can be reused.

- Healing; Healing counts as Defensive Magic, however you only get XP points for healing someone on the same team as you. You can run around all day healing people and not get any points.

- Gear; There are missions which give excellent gear. On Silan you will be given a particularly useful 2 handed sword and magic amplifiers for completing certain missions. On the Mainland the Sage Missions give weapons, armour and jewels. However most players get their gear from trading, crafting or from their Guild. Many crafters sell huge amounts of gear as they level up crafting. Some will give it away if you ask nicely.

There is plenty of help and information on these forums if you have any other questions, or post more or ask in game. Also good sources of information online are:

www.ryzomnomnom.com
www.ryzom.silenda.de
www.ballisticmystix.net

As a general rule, kitins and other animals with a hard shell (carapace) will give in best to cold, and least to acid.

Each animal has its own resistances to magic and melee damage types, you can look them up individually here: http://ballisticmystix.net/?p=mob . There's also a consolidated mob resistence guide, check this topic: http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/index.php?page=topic/view/13298/1 .

Game is not particularly mission-based. There are fight missions, given generally by military personnel (corporals, sergeants etc). Craft missions are given by city and tribe overseers. Delivery missions are given by messengers.

You can use bmsite, type the name of the city and it will list all NPCs in there: http://ballisticmystix.net/?p=npc

To the best of my knowledge, there is no such system in place. Your odds to resist/absorb certain spells are given by the jewelry you wear and your race (iirc), similarly absording melee damage is a function of your armor. There isn't much need for a DR system, seeing how you already have some chance to resist a spell that was thrown at you.

You have to be in a team to get xp, drive-by healing doesn't work; when the kill is finished you should get a message telling you how much xp you gained.

No, only tutorial missins award you gear, and sage quest lines (the gear is good, but the quests are long and cumbersome..).

I'd suggest looking at the stuff that's for sale, check who crafted, and message that crafter directly to see if they can make an item specific for your needs. Seeing the population is not particularly high, it's more efficient for a crafter to work on demand rather than put random stuff on sale with the hope it will be bought; that only works on large-scale economies.

I left pvp out, and I'm sure there will be more things to say beside what I already did :)

Thanks a lot for the info and provided links Arfur and Mjollren, I find them quite usefull ^^

I always say: There is no such things as stupid answers, only stupid questions. That's why i take my time to properly think of questions before asking them :)

yes indeed, good questions, that are already well answered here, perhaps more indepth attention is needed, you will find many players that are pve and willing to help with any part of the game they can (providing they know, we don't all know it all here, and we learn as a collective alot) there are various guilds that will train pvp and help with that, though as has been stated above, alot of the player base is pve.
