The copyists have replicated a somewhat shaky hand to indicate the exhaustion in which the original was penned.
To all who read this message, greetings:
I have just returned from a survey of the regions of Oflovaks Oasis and Frahar Towers in the Desert. I intended simply to assign the species of white kitins in the pods that are roaming in the desert. Instead, I found that there were far more pods than I had thought! I have added at least four to the already large number in Desert.

I have marked on the maps shown here all the white kitin pods and their species in the Desert according to my observations and the codes I have devised which are given directly below the maps.  Two sites previously recorded as having white kitins appeared to be empty during my survey. They are marked with a "?" within the circle.

Wilk Potskin has asked all Ranger aspirants to survey the species of the aggressive white kitins that appear to be multiplying and threatening the lands closer and closer to the capitol cities.  I ask that all homins do this.  Ranger aspirants are few. Loyal citizens and subjects of the various lands are many.

There are four lands. Take copies of my maps, mark them up with your observations and mail them to me for recording on the walls of the stables. Do not assume that the populations and species are stable!  There are reports that the species change from time to time.  Do NOT assume that the marked pods are all there are; they seem to be on the increase.

And if you have the strength and will, once you have observed the kitins ... kill them.

By my hand,
Mac'Od Bittty, Ranger Aspirant

There are three new mounds in Aeden Aqueous, two in Lakenisle and one in Dew Drops west of Crystabell reported by my guildmate Uzo. All three are currently empty. They have been placed on the map and the key has been annotated.

In Dew Drops I catalogued the species of white kitins and slew some of them. I also located two more pods that had not been marked on the map. All are now in place.

I copied this mesage myself, as you can tell by the script.

Can provide pictures of the fights with all the kitin-groups including a part of the map being open at the same time precicing the spots if interested. Planning to upload an updated map for comparsion when spotting new groups of Kitins from the depths - maybe consisting of different kinds of Kitins - next up.

P.S.: I am really sorry that I was not able to use the maps Mac'Od Bittty provided; but when Sari and I patrolled through the Haven and Maiden Grove we could not confirm some of the older positions of Kitins of the depths - as there were no Kitin-groups at those places at the time of our patrols. And to be honest, at those places I there haven't been any groups of Kitins as well during the last days whenever I remember passing these spots while delivering packages, even though Kitins-groups have been reported there long, long ago.

Bittty stares at the scribbled map of Witherings that Zhoi has posted and thinks to himself, "She must have not bothered to re-record the ones I already have marked ... no... 2 and 3, 8, 10 are known locations ... I wonder if the others are missing or if she just didn't see them this time." He looks at all the spots she has recorded in Haven of Purity. "So many new or un-reported pods ...". He resolves to see if Kiwa-Lie might be willing to bake a special batch of her cookies for Zhoi.

"Well, I'd better get out the inks again," Bittty mutters.

A short time later Bittty finishes amending the large maps.

"Next time I get to Zora, I'll check the other locations out."

Anzhanto writes hastily.

I have discovered a breach in the bark southeast of Hoï-Cho near the Birds of Omen camp. The mound is swarming with immense kipee, kipucka, kirosta and kinrey. I will scout other areas of the Witherings as best I can.

Mac'Od Bittty looks at the note from Anzhanto, then consults the map. "Oh, good, it's not a new one" he thinks. He reaches into his pouch and pulls out a fresh map of Aeden Aqueous, which he places over the one he updated not too long ago. Then he pulls out a freshly copied message bearing the seal of the New Guild of Scribes and tacks it to the side of the stable.

Lordoy to all homins who read this:

I have just returned from a supply run in Aeden Aqueous and can report that all camps received good value -- for now. The harvesters of New Trykoth should not rest just because a few runs are fully supplied.

However, while passing through the Winds of Muse region on my way to supply the Camp near Loria Stronghold, I observed far more than the number of white kitins that I had expected to see based on my most recent information. Returning from that mission I undertook to survey Winds of Muse.

I am dismayed to report that it would appear that the number of pods of aggressive white kitins is expanding explosively. Instead of four pods between the northern vortex to Dew Drops and the vortex to Loria, there are now eight! There are two new pods of kidinaks in the Windy Way area near Threepillars Farm where none had been observed before and new pod northwest of the lake and another near the entrance to Musemere. I have left the previously updated map so that they can be compared.

The same thing may have occurred in Witherings, but we had so few reports from Haven of Purity that we cannot be sure.

Homins. It does not matter your race or your allegiance! We must stand together against this threat. Build the Observation Camps! Kill the Kitins and please send updates so that the maps may be the most useful that they can be.

Grytt y Seelagan,

Mac'Od Bittty

Anzhanto writes quickly
Lorick and I came across two small packs of kidinak just southeast of Sai-Shun Stronghold in Maiden Grove. We heard the first pack long before we saw it. Thankfully, they are slow and cannot swim. We outran them to Fowling Lake and jumped in. We went back and noticed the second pack of kidinak a little further to the east of the fist pack.

We will try to get close to them and more accurately note their location. As for trying to kill them, both Lorick and I are craftsmen and apprentices at that. We're learning the use of a matchata and how to weave sap but we are still children at best when it comes to fighting.

Anzhanto

"Mother said she feared that after the second swarm, the kitin would never entirely leave hominkind alone again." Anzhanto shakes his head as he signals to Lorick and they head back into the jungles.

Mjollren sends a hurried and barely legible note via izam to Bitttymacod

I have encountered a group of 3 white kipesta just near the kami altar in Frahar Towers. Homins would be well advised to not leave the altar protection without prior caution.

I cannot tell if this group will move anytime soon. Best if simply killed.

Regards,

---

#39 [en]

Bittty reads the notes from Anzhanto and Mjollren, then looks at the maps. The one near the Frahar Towers Kami altar is marked -- Kipestas roam a good deal. The one in Witherings. Well, that might be *that* circle. He resolves to travel to the Jungle lands soon. In the meantime there's a message that has to be copied and maps that need to be updated.

A short time later he posts a new message. The ink has barely had time to dry on some of the copies, so he posts them last; unfortunately some of them are smudged.

To all noble homins who read these letters, greetings --

Even in the few days since I updated the map of the Winds of Muse area of Aeden Aqueous, new pods of white kitins have appeared. Today I counted, I think, 7-8 NEW pods in the region south of the Karavan altar by the lake.

I am also receiving reports of more and more pods of white kitins in Witherings, and just recently of expanded activity in the Forest as well, and the white kitins have been moving around in the Frahar Towers region of the Desert.

This is not a few extra kitins... this is increasing population at an increasing rate.

Homins! Look to your defenses!

Indeed! Bitty's call to be more alert should not be ignored.

I spent the recent weeks in the Grove of Umbra which is still relatively calm, digging mats for the observation towers. Today I ventured into the Forest. And I was ambushed by Kitin of the depths on the road from Majestic into Fleeting Garden, right before leaving the Majestic Garden. I believe it was 4 Kipuckas (lvl100) killing me. They moved rather slowly, but I was too exhausted from previous running to get away.

To avoid them and to relax from this shock I asked the Kamis to port me to the southeast of Fleeting Garden. Meeting with Si-Tin Len of the Sacred Sap always relaxes my troubled Zorai's mind. Can you imagine the shock that befell me, when I approached their camp and saw Kitins of the depth walking freely inside? Inside the camp! These are Kinchers of lvl100. For some reason, for now, the tribe and the Kincher of the Depth seem to have agreed on a truce. Observing them for a while, they seem to stay local within the boundary of the tribe's camp.

I have to think about this. It is dangerous times.

#41 [en]

Mac'Od Bittty trudges wearily up to the stable walls covered with notes underneath the maps. He has a stack of copied messages under his arm and he posts one below the map of Aeden Aqueous, then takes out a pen and ink and marks the map.

A few days more, and yet more white kitins have appeared in Winds of Muse both on the path to Witchy Coves, and also on the path used to get from Dew Drops to Loria. It would appear that they have divined something of what we are doing and lie in wait for us. In this short time I have not yet had time to look to Witherings, Verdant Heights, or Burning Desert.

I fear the worst... homins complacent after having supposedly driven the invading Kitins below ground will not build the camps that we need to keep an eye on them. Then the white kitins will tunnel up to the mounds near Fairhaven, Crystabell, Windermeer, Avendale, Pyr, Thesos, Dyron, Zora, Hoi-Cho, Min-Lai, Jen-Lai, Yrkanis, Avalae, Natae, Davae ... and we will have no warning. I remember the Second Swarming and the Refuge where we stayed for 8 long years of Jena. I remember the Deep Roots where I was raised by a communal tribe of refugees until the Rangers came and brought me to Silan. I do not want to return to either place.

Who is working? Who is digging? Who is riding to make delivery? I know I am, but have seen no others.

Here is my latest report. There will be more.

Watch the Ground!

It is with great weariness that Mac'Od Bittty once again approaches the wall of the stable with a stack of copied letters and a couple of fresh maps. His hands bear the marks of freshly healed wounds as he uses a bit of glue resin to paste some maps over others for comparison. Finally he posts a new letter and moves on to go to the next stable wall.

19h - Holeth, Folially 12, 3rd AC 2575 (22 November 2013)

To all who come to read this, greeting:

It has been some small time since I updated the maps. I do not guarantee that these updates are complete; I am but one homin and the investigations I have made have taken many days of trekking from one place to another and from one land to another.

The situation in Aeden Aqueous seems to have stabilized somewhat. After a moderately successful few days killing what I could of white kitins some of them have not come back. However some of them have, and new pods have appeared very close to ones that were slaughtered. Some of these have the same species of kitins, some of them have new species as if in reaction to the killing.

These last several days (*) I spent patrolling the region of Fleeting Garden, following up on the report by Irfidel. I started at the Kami altar and looked to the camp of the Sacred Sap tribe. There were no white kinchers therein, but there was one over near the cliffs -- it was only one and even though it was "protected" by various gingos, I slew it. I was then set on by so many gingos that I fled to the Sacred Sap camp for assistance. The guards, as always, gave me entrance and assistance.

I then proceeded west and found a set of three pods of white kipukas south of the road in the southwest, then a set of white kipestas a little north of those then...

Over the period of time that I patrolled Fleeting Garden (with the assistance of Ranger aspirant Meggy, then of my guildmate Mannicmatt and then my guildmate Hwinoree as it happened that they were available to heal me) I discovered no less than THIRTY previously unreported pods of white kitins. If you look on the new map of the Forest Lands you may see them. It seems to me that perhaps the Matis do not travel in that region any more that so many of them were not reported.

One pod in particular appeared near the Sacred Sap camp after a day or so; a pod of white kipukas near, but not in exactly the same location, and a pod of kinchers well to the south of the camp, almost at the border to Heretics Hovel.

I then traveled to Oflovaks Oasis, where there had been a report of white kitins quite near to the Kami altar. I found none on the border of the lake there, but I did find a pod of kirostas in the southeast-most corner, close to the road that leads to Pyr! Worried that this might be a sign of some new movement I traveled north along the border and discovered two pods of white kipukas in Barkgully and two new pods of kinchers in the north. I also discovered a new pod of kirostas along the road between the two ruins and a pod of kipestas just next to Clopper hill. All of them I killed.

I am worried. The numbers of white kitins increase and they are increasingly located nearer and nearer to the capitals.

I will rest a few days then travel to the Witherings. I wonder if this is how Wilk Potskin feels after doing his patrols in the Old Lands. If it is, I do not wonder that on occasion he is curt in his replies. I will have to send a copy of this to him.

by my hand,
Mac'Od Bittty

A slip of parchment is attached to the note, written in an un-polished hand.

Came back after several days to the Kami altar in Fleeting Garden to find another pod of white kipuka, this time in the meadow on the far side of the altar from the village in a dangerous position for any homin using that altar.

Found a new spawn of kinrey south of the ones on the map, near the tip of the chasm and another new one on the road. Also found a re-emergence of kinrey at one of the spots to the NW of the same chasm.

Removed them.

Just a thought on the situation in Fleeting Garden: Maybe the KotD respawn after some time at a random point in the Garden? Once they have spawned they then stay local to that spot, unless a brave soul eradicates them again, and they respawn someplace else.

Just a theory. And hard to prove, I guess.

#45 [en]

Omg! Bittty, you need to get around more, there is tons and tons of packs of Kotd all over the place! last week i killed around 10 different packs in KoD forest. In Fleeting gardens there is at least another 10. in UB there is packs all over the place too! Do you want me to map them? Where is there a map to post it, I will do?!!
