Hi everyone!

I'm not a complete newbie, I played the game a looong time ago when it was first released. Unfortunately I had spent all my time on the Tryker island exploring, gathering and crafting. Well, not unfortunately (I've met great friends and had the best time in any MMO), but I quit playing before I even reached the mainland.
When Ryzom was closed down and then resurrected by our wonderful benefactors (I'm not even sure who's looking after Ryzom now), I tried playing again and quit playing as soon as I reached the mainland... again :(

So even though I've been playing for a while I actually have no idea about what the game is like on the mainland? My biggest interests in the game are making friends with other players, exploring and gathering/crafting. What can I expect from the mainland? Or rather, what's the game like for someone who just wants to gather/craft and spend time with friends?

Sounds like the mainland of Atys is the perfect place for you to be in!

Seriously, digging (gathering) and crafting are the most elaborate (read: time consuming) tasks in the game and if you loved those on Silan (during your second trial) then you'll love the possiblities on the mainland.

Personally I hated digging on the newbieland Silan because I lacked the means (=stanzas) to do proper searching for material and it was all trial and error and lots of luck. On the mainland the more I dig, the more fun it is. I just managed to increase my second country dig speciality to 100 and feel I can finally properly start experimenting with material combinations for crafting.

Another noteworthy fact: As a newbie it can be daunting to get ingame money (=dappers) to buy teleporters, equipment, mats etc. If you dig and craft yourself, you'll be able to accept missions from overseers which is one of the more effective ways to gain dappers in the game.

So, hurry back onto Silan and then on to the mainland!

You'll have to start on Silan afresh, because late last year al servers were combined into one. Every character not subscribed at that time was deleted or reset to 1 on all skills. Equipment and Dappers was reset to 0 for all of us.

Thanks for the reply, now I'm really excited and can't wait to get through all these quests on Silan.

One question though: since it looks like we can't use ranged weapons on Silan, what lvl in a combat skill should I get to if I plan to use ranged weapons on the mainland?

And also I don't know if this is a bug or something, but there's this very loud howling wind noise all over Silan. Is there any way to disable it without turning off all sound completely?

Welcome back, Eeonita

You will find it easy to make friends in this game. If you like digging and crafting, you won't have too much trouble making dappers either.

One result of the Server Merge last year is that all dig spots were moved (dig spots in Prime Roots have since been put back). This made it necessary for all of us to re-explore every region in order to re-discover dig spots. This process is ongoing and incomplete, so plenty of scope for exploration.

Ranged Weapons come in at level 21 (as you say, only on the Mainland) and this splits into 1 handed and 2 handed Ranged Weapons at level 51. Further splits into specialisations follow.

The loud howling wind is a feature of any small island, and at least it blows away the smell of the Yelks.

I look forward to seeing you on the Mainland :-)

welcome back, and indeed you will find it quick and easy to find friends and find help on the ML, i too played in silan for a very long time (15 or so months) now I'm on the ML and i can't understand why i stayed so long in silan and missed out on alot of good stuff on the ML, but now i'm here on ML, and much more intrigued with the game then i was on silan, but if you should need any help, with anything, no matter how simple or complex, please don't be afraid to send me a tell. (/tell talkIRC)

i have been given alot of help over the time i've played on here, and i'd love the chance to give that help back to someone.

have fun on the big tree.
