Been wondering a while, but due to recent events this has jumped up quite far on my list of priorities. Will we get trytonists as a proper faction soon? Can they get their own tps like marauders? I'd love to be able to play the game without having to explain my choices in RP when I also have to stand beside either religious fanatics or those escaped from looney bin in hidden source.

Hell, I'd join a mayhem faction if you could introduce that. Airlines instead of tps. All hail the mighty bluesbrother, zoom zoom!

According to some posts in Announcements Trytonist faction is on the horizon.

A Ranger faction is on the near horizon. That will be all positive fame with Civ and Religion (cutoff as yet unestablished, but it's easy to get to +50 across the board as long as you don't join a cult or become a citizen of one of the civilizations). We (I count myself) have already started missions to demonstrate our commitment to support of all homins and battle against the Kitin and the Goo. Once the rite of passage has been determined ((read: once they get it coded)) fully qualified Rangers will have access to speedy travel to the high danger areas ((q250)) and the Prime Roots. The nature of this rapid travel is as yet un-revealed, nor is there a timeframe for when the rite will be complete.

Since Rangers are all positive fame, I suspect that Trytonists will have to have negative Religion fame (since both the Kami and the Karavan dislike Tryton).

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this. It has become more urgent to many since merge so as to provide an alternative to the RP'ing fanatical factionism.

Rager / Theist would give an aternative for those looking for a different game experience. To my mind, Marauder should have been held off until Ranger was ready and intro'd st same time.

i wish they would implement some kind of button (similar to a 'like' on [ass]facebook) on this forum jobby so people like me that don't have an intelligent or informed opinion on a matter can simply say 'i like this' without having to formulate a witty reply to rival the replies of countless witty others and so on, so forth and such like.

therefore i will just say "i like this idea and am in favour of all that has been said" and have done with it.

Marceline: yeah, that's true (I don't like all those "+1" posts so this feature would be a lot better)

@topic: well they showed up 2 times and announced that they want to do something - but nothing really happened up to now - so I suppose that they have some technical issues with the trytonists or they can't decide on the porter positions or something like that...

I want to point out that Trytonists are neither atheists, nor pacifists, although they refuse the Kami as well as the Karavan. In fact, they take active part in the faction conflicts, as they have done in the past, when Elias Tryton called his followers to weapons during the Temple Wars: "So Tryton asked the homins to take part in the fight in order to maintain the balance of power ..." (Erlan Chronicles)

The main difference between the Marauders and the Trytonists, as far as I'm concerned, is that the Marauders in their slyness know exactly what they are doing, while the Trytonists in their delusion believe they know what they are doing. The Marauders decided to become villans for their own good, while the Trytonists think that killing homins of both fractions makes them heroes for the sake of all hominkind - which hardly makes them less villainous, if less predictable. The one (big, I admit) plus going for them is the deployment of the rainbow bridges.

You and I seem to have read the same lore, Salazar, yet found two very different ways to interpret it. I have not seen anything implying the trytonists to be rogue killers, without a purpose, rather a group who suggest that homins work together and abandon the two higher powers. Does this make them atheists? Probably not, it's easy enough to compare Tryton himself to a God and the trytonists as cultists, but what I see is a group of people who promote freedom and equality. These are words of great importance to trykers, and being one (or two) myself, I very much look forward to it. In my mind, the karavan and kami have decided that trytonists are bad homins, but the choice is up to each and every one to make, which is why I miss the faction. The choice isn't there to make, unless I want to sacrifice alot of gameplay time by running around (PR tps) and this just isn't worth it considering the time I can put in and the fun I want out.

From what I understand from the texts, the trytonists never killed homins because they were karavaneers or kami followers. That can't be said for the opposite though. The part that you quote is taken a bit out of context, since before that it says that Tryton believes that if one of the factions win the war, nothing will stop them from enslaving homins forever. So taking part in the fight was against both factions, focused on the one that currently had the advantage, not just a mindless killing of homins of differing opinion.

These are all my opinions based on reading the lore available combined with much of my real life beliefs. Some say roleplay a different character, I prefer to roleplay myself. Each to his own, and know that I will not fight you because you have a differing opinion, only if you try to deny that rights to others.

I never had any intention to deny a player of his or her choice. I only wanted to make clear that Trytonists are neither pacifists, nor atheists. I also did not want to imply that Trytonists are rogue killers. I still can doubt both the reason as well as the quality of his decisions, though.

We first have to point out that the "revelation" of Tryton started the war in the first case: "The Goddess Jena would soon be making a personal appearance on Atys, leading her heavenly legions, to destroy Ma-Duk and the Kamis. By revealing this news, Tryton was announcing a holy war between the Powers, a war that would tear Atys apart and lead to the deaths of many homins." - While there never was any proof for that (after all, Jena did not bless us with her appearance yet), and while Erlan's own interpretations can be questioned, it was that announcement that brought the homins to the weapons in the first place: "Tryton's announcement spread quickly all over the Bark and the reactions were swift. The Kamis asked their followers to join forces to defend the planet against Jena and her supporters, who had nothing to offer but death and servitude. The Karavan cursed Tryton for revealing the Goddess's intentions to the Kamis, and in turn stated that the true design of Ma-Duk was to devour the vital force of the homins to enable him to survive the Goo." An interesting bit in Erlan's Chronicles is the fact that Tryton speaks of "the Goddess", which makes clear he is no atheist but believes in her existence, while an atheist denies the existence of such a higher being.

The choice of calling to the weapons and to fight for whatever fraction is in an inferior position is eccentric, to say the least, not only that it takes into counting to kill those tomorrow you saved today, but also to lenghten the war - at worst forever, although he thought that idea the best: "He also maintained that, as long as the two powers were fighting each other, homins still had hope but, if one defeated the other, then homins would be enslaved for evermore." (On a side note, it didn't help on Leanon, where the Karavaneer lost with pomp and circumstances and only one Temple, but three Sanctuaries were erected).

Having said that, it seems clear that in the declaration of another war, Tryton will take not position, but part in, and therefore all his followers: he has to, if he lives up to the ideal he proclaims, to make sure no side will loose and no side will win.

I close my case. ;)

Hey Salazar, actually, Trytonists have their own beliefs. They follow the will of Elias Tryton. In fine, their aim si to make sure hominity will live through and that, as long as there's no possibility to do otherwise, they will make sure no Power (K/K) is soing to takeover the planet. So basically, you can consider them a shadow player with an ulterior motive, which is to make sure that hominity will always survive.

Plus, true trytonists do not see themselves as Heroes for the sake of all hominkind. They always stay in the shadows, are nowhere and everywhere? They operate in secret and work to keep the peace on Atys.

On the other side, the Marauders did not decide to become villains for their own sake. They had no choice in that. They were the homins who stayed behind during The First Exodus. They ware abandoned by their own people. They survived by hating the homins who abandoned them and by killing each other off, so that they created an extremely violent Society. Basically, they come on Atys to destroy the nations. Their sole aim is to destroy homins, kill them off and make them disappear from Atys.

The marauders are no villain, they just want to destroy everything. In spirit, they're more alike terrorrists than anything else.

So comparing Trytonists with Marauders is so so wrong.

If you took care about what is happening in the different nations, you'd realise there are shadows forces working out to keep peace on Atys.

Plus, in the original version of the lore, the trytonists were meant to help the homins to become independent from the two powers, to liberate themselves and stop being slaves. The two times there was a great swarming, it was the Trytonists who saved hominity. That's all.

The Trytonists work for hominity, the Marauders just want to destroy hominity.
The Powers just use homins to sustain themselves.

Btw, each faction is a good choice to play in. Just don't say two groups with totally different aims are the same.

hum The first post if I understand it's to ask to have trytonist TP..But I think it would very important to be easier to new players to descoverd more about them.

I'm very intersted by all this little factions birth by philosophical schisme. For me kara/ kami was not enough to all the homins. But It's very difficult to find informations about Jenaïste (not kara) and Trytonist and others.. And difficult also to learn about to rp.
If Maximus can translate a little this topic on the french forum it will be good.(an other topic for IF^^)

I will ask to Zoroargh and the N'Asa if a departement of them can stude and teach about the different philosophy and théology of Atys.
